The Rebels beating Bama doesn't even warrant first place votes.

So are we talking everyone's perceived notions of how good each team is? Or actual on the field results? Because Ole Miss has the best resume so far

You shouldn't jump that high after 1 victory.

Based on what? Poll sanctity? Lol

Those 4 teams have the best arguments IMO

LSU started their season on the road in Starksville

MSU played Air Force which is an above-average G5 who has one of its best years last year after having a horrible year the year before that, and won by 14. Always kept AF at arms length at least, but still. Not enough to jump to #1, even with others not-so-grand.

TCU didn't impress.
OSU didn't impress.
MSU didn't impress or unimpress.
Georgia impressed
Ole Miss impressed
Notre Dame impressed a little; impressed a lot for those who figured they'd fall after all their key injuries
UCLA didn't impress or unimpress
Florida State didn't impress at all
LSU did impress

Unlike ND, who gets to see the triple option yearly, MSU performance against AFA I felt was better than you give it credit for. Sparty got out of that game without injury to players or its reputation IMO.

ND was also impressive considering the key injuries they had going into that game. The final score was not reflective of how much the Irish were in control.

UGA manage not to stumble against a known bugaboo. That they blew the doors off of SCAR means they did their job. Same can be said for LSU's performance.

Ole Miss definitely got the most impressive win last night. But considering the QB instability at Bama and the fact that UGA, LSU and TAMU remain on the schedule, that victory could lose a lot of tarnish as the season rolls on.
Alabama could easily finish 11-1 or 7-5 - if Alabama doesn't commit 5 turnovers last night, Ole Miss loses 38-19. If Alabama plays like they did last night, they can lose not only to Georgia, LSU, and Texas A&M, but Tennessee as well.

TCU lost another defensive starter for the year. This one our shut down corner and probably the one that hurts the most. That's 6 defensive starters out from a team that came in having to replace 6 starters. No reason to drop us until we lose I guess, but we will not be a factor at years' end.

You shouldn't jump that high after 1 victory.

What is ironically amusing is an FSU fan talking about some other team being a sham at #1 despite some of the performances FSU had while still being so highly ranked.

FIFY.

Ole Miss doesn't deserve to rise that high that fast. Neither does LSU, tbh - Auburn has not looked that good. Also, I'd be shocked if Ohio State falls out of the top 4.

So your poll ballot would have to completely change every week based on whose "quality wins" are the best. By that logic, if Bama has similar problems against other teams on their schedule, Ole Miss has to drop, because if the Tide don't turn out to be a 10-win team, then Ole Miss' win won't look as good with perspective. Until Ole Miss beats another good team, I think this was an upset in the sense of the better team (Alabama) losing, particularly because OM had 24 points off of 5 Tide turnovers -- and not OM proving they are a better team than Bama.

If we are ranking by trying to predict (based on only 3 weeks of information) who would beat who if they played next week, who would win if #1 played #2, #2 played #3, etc., then I'd go with Michigan State or LSU at #1.

Not enough people giving credit for how tough NIU played tOSU... the buckeyes may have played a bit subpar but that does not diminish what NIU did yesterday

FSU made the playoffs, that's all I cared about. Ohio State will too if they win out....

The seeding is really inconsequential as the playoff games are at neutral sites

Exactly, +3 (BYU was two points away from that distinction, but oh well). And had Ohio State played a power team, they wouldn't be undefeated any more. As it is, the pick-6 against NIU was the difference in the game.

Thank God polls or meaningless now.

It's a little bit of both. NIU deserves credit but tOSU also didn't play very well. Most rational fans are aware of the type of program NIU has.

I think Alabama is still one of the top teams, but they LOST on the field...TCU and Baylor have looked pretty good, but they haven't played anyone. Georgia hasn't really been tested...

Anyways, ya, there would be a lot of movement in my poll? Why is that considered bad?

If we're predicting what the polls will actually look like later today -- Ole Miss will be top 4, Ohio State will stay at #1.

I'm with you. My personal poll would be very fluid. Of course, it wouldn't start till Week 5 or 6. Why should some mistaken notions about a season drastically impact real play? To be number 1, you have to play like number 1 or you should be punished in the polls.

This is true but Ole Miss is not going to jump from #18 to #1 and them not jumping that high is not a travesty nor does it show the polls are rigged. That is how they have always been. No they are not perfect and I don't think any of us honestly expect that.

If Ohio State drops from #1 then I wouldn't argue that decision at all. They do not look like a #1 team right now but we have seen gameplay of theirs this year that looks like a #1 team so it could go either way. They could get their **** together for next week and be off to the races.

Didn't say it was bad, you can do it anyway you want. Just saying that if you do it that way, then you have to move teams down later in the season if their early-season wins turn out not to be "big wins" because the teams they beat turn out to be not great.

NIU played great, no doubt and that is part of the problem. Everyone OSU plays is going to most likely play at their peak potential just as NIU did.

Hopefully these past two weeks can serve as a wake up call for Ohio State and what the rest of their season is going to be like. That team could be so damn entertaining to watch but I can barely keep myself watching them while they play like this. I wouldn't even blink an eye if they drop from the #1 spot.
