Not at all. Being an objective realist lightens the blow when (for example) we lose to Marshall by 45 points on homecoming.

I don't think we will beat Texas State, but I'll gladly eat crow if we do.

Are we improved? We will find out tomorrow.

I don't want to get in the middle of this family feud but did want to say one thing about the bold part. I just don't get that line of thinking and Western has fans like that...

or I assume they are like that, self protecting.

But does a loss hurt any less if you say your team is going to win or better than the other team. I know LSU is the better team and Western should get a good butt kicking. But me knowing that going in wont easy the pain of a loss any more so than thinking Western can win.

I understand you are being realistic so I'm not disagreeing on that just the self protecting part

It will always be something with these kinds of "fans". If we win this week, the response will be that we really will see what we are made of next week vs Nebraska. Groundhog day for them. Has to be a sad life for them....

I know WKU has had its share of troubles on the gridiron, but I doubt 5 wins and 33 losses in 38 games has ever happened. It changes a fan. It's why, when we lost to Marshall by 45 on our homecoming last year, I wasn't even a little bit surprised. Watching our team get their faces beat in for three years.....it will take wins against the likes of Texas State and mid-tier CUSA teams in order for the Southern Miss fanbase to be proud again. A less-embarrassing loss against State and a win over an FCS doormat proves absolutely nothing.

Of course, you have folks who think they define the word "fan" and being a "fan" is only applicable to those who pump sunshine and are repeatedly proven wrong almost every week. Somehow, we could lose to Texas State by 28 and I'll still be the idiot according to them. And it's also my fault they lost. Mine and the rest of fans who cautiously attempt to stay grounded.

WKU went 4-32 from 2008-2010

However, since 2010 they've gone 32-20 (including their 2-0 start this year) 04-cheers

EDIT: if you want to get technical, they started 2011 0-4, so they actually went 4-37

That's right. I forgot about that.

Granted wasn't that right when you went D-1 (FBS)?

Ours came off of 17 consecutive winning seasons.

To be correct Western loss the first 4 games in 2011 so that would make it 4-36. Each one of those 36 hurt no matter if it was vs Bama or Indiana St. Some hurts worse than others but they all hurt. Sine then Western went 39 and 16 including this year

Leave it to a MTSU fan to make 32 + 4 = 37.

Stupid typo! But WKU did end the 2007 season with a loss to UNT, making the total 4-37 03-wink

i know you didn't call names but i could easily fall into this category. i don't really think i'm protecting. i could be but i've just watched us too many times when all we needed was ONE MOTHER******* STOP and we would have won against ul-freaking-big lots-monroe or one stop against arky state and those stops never came and we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. games we led the whole damn way but never got a key stop when needed.

i thought we should have beat illinois last year. they weren't very good. i know it was at their place but we were moving the ball well early. then we lost. to a bad illinois team.

indiana is 2-0 but really struggled to win both. i just have very little faith that we can win on the road against a big ten team. even a very bad big 10 team and i don't know if indiana will win a single conference game. unless they play purdue.

there are games we probably SHOULD win. but when i looked at the schedule this year short of the lsu game i said we could win every other game and just as easily lose every other game. too much parity in college football other than the very top where the football factories reside.
