He could. But the Clay Ryan move could mean that Watts doesn't need babysitting anymore. If that's the case, Ray would be gone very soon.

I suspect the predictions are colored by well-earned hatred and we're stuck with him for several years yet. Would not mind being wrong on that.

It's a big drop from $850,000 down to whatever he would make after retirement.

Maybe so! I was handed a UAB Police jaywalking brochure while walking down the street this week. Apparently they are about to start cracking down on it. Anyway, on the back there was a message from UAB president, Carol Garrison, complete with her picture. It was actually refreshing to live in the past for a couple of seconds.

They cracked down on jaywalking several times during her tenure so that isn't surprising.

He's already had that job. He was President of the UAHSF before he was Dean of the School of Medicine.

If this prediction has legs, I suspect we'd get a weekend news dump sometime tonight.

Maybe he and John Boehner have plans for their mutual retirement after October, 2015.

Seriously, when is the third anniversary of Watts becoming our $800,000 President? I would guess that date as the earliest he might leave unless for a post that pays even more..

That would be sometime around February of next year & he makes around $850,000 a year.

Thing to remember is that he wasn't destitute before he became president. If retirement is based on a 3 year look back staying on for another 6 months probably isn't worth it to him

I think that would be the earliest time of departure for Watts because of state TRS rules. Of course, I'm thinking like a teacher, not a doctor. He can continue to be a doctor after he quits as President. When you retire as a teacher, you are out of a job in your field. (I looked into a private school job and for teaching all 4 years of history PLUS coaching a sport, they offered $17,000)

TRS considerations will have nothing to do with it. UAB paid Carol Garrison for over a year after she "retired" to get her to her 10 years.

Good point. But FRW hasn't endeared himself to the board by bringing back football. I guess it depends how much damage they think he could do

Do you really think Watts went against the board of Trustees by bringing football back?

I think he was following their orders on December 2 and on June 1.

Short answer to your question, yes. I don't think he wanted to either but local leaders pretty much laid down the law.

Keep in mind that to date (Sept. 2015) no permanent structure for football has been started and none is moving in that direction (contracts let). The BOT and its minions can renege on their word at any time until major construction outlays are made. When those people quit throwing roadblocks our way, I will feel more confident we won the war, not just a battle.

I believe he was instructed to mention it was coming back & I believe it was highly because of the drying up of Campaign For UAB donations as well as the fact that we were days away from being booted from CUSA.

I believe Clark's contract was also related to the lack of donations to the campaign.

He went against at least two of them in Bringing it back. Possible three. One (Finis) was "highly upset" with Watts.

His career will not have prepared him to be a full time practicing physician. If he were to quit and find a new job, it would still be in academics with a primary administrative or research focus.

What are you talking about? You are aware that Watts has continued to have physician hours as part of his agreement to be UAB President, right?
