You can be a loyal supporter and also realize that a mistake was made by NIU Athletics in this instance. To this day, CheerDad has not been contacted by NIU regarding Diesel's passing nor was he recognized at the Murray State game. And that's not right.

The support shown for a memorial to Diesel in this thread has been overwhelming. Would NIU support it financially and otherwise? Don't know. As Dog Fan said, the fact that there is strong support, financially and otherwise, for a memorial should be communicated to NIU. Hopefully, NIU will be supportive and discuss what things need to happen for it to become a reality.

Damn you Bob you only went to what 80-85 games in a row? 05-nono

Anyone that flew to Idaho to see NIU play in the Kibbie Dome should never be questioned on loyalty!

Actually it was 97 in a row... Wish I could have gotten to at least 100, but it just wasn't meant to be.

97 in a row now gives me something to shoot for, I have 73 in a row going into Ohio State.

I will give generously to any memorial to Diesel.

I went to Idaho. Pretty country, hard to get to one of the ugliest venues for football, the Kibbie Dome. If we ever travel that far again may as well go a little further and play like UCLA or Wash ST

Ok - so it has been established that we would all like to see - and will kick in $$ - for a statue for Diesel.

WHO is going to be the person who speaks to NIU / Athletics regarding this?

Whoever does it (I'm not volunteering as I am not good at this type of thing) could perhaps say that we have some seed money committed & a great deal of interest. We could also say we would like Rene Bemis to do the work since she did such an outstanding job on the pack sculpture.

This could really move if we were to get an ok from NIU .
We can set up a GoFundMe page & use facebook etc. to spread the word.

I'd be happy to write unless someone else insists. What I think is important though is to get a more firm figure in front of the AD rather than simply saying "seed money."

Chihuskie was asking about who to contact in Athletics. Might wanna get him involved. I would suggest talking to CheerDad too.

Also, I know several people that don't post here that will donate.

Good idea - I counted at least $1,000 in commitment just from the people who posted on this thread. Imagine how much more we could get if we really made a push!

This is a very important thread IMHO - it needs to stay on top if someone knows how to do that. I don't want it lost in the shuffle.

$20 definitely from me.

$200 or $1,000 from me depending on how NIU handles OSU.

I'll donate $200 if NIU gets within 1 possession against OSU.
I'll donate $1,000 if NIU wins (yes, seriously).

That'll be $200, todd.

Todd's going to end up one of NIU's biggest donors if he keeps making these bets.

Please pay the cashier at the end of the aisle and, once again, thank you for betting on NIU football.

Yep, I do have to follow-thru on that. Is there one of those donate-to-make-it-happen sites?

With Todds additional donation we are getting close to $2k if everyone donates the amount they said they would. Hope we can get this done.
