Iowa is the only one of the five B1G teams that is favored (by 5 1/2). UNC is the only double digit favorite (10 1/2). I'm surprised the spread is that big.

For the 18 folks who have currently submitted picks in the ACCbbs Pickem for week 3, 13 of 'em are picking Duke.

I think had Northwestern won AT Stanford, that ratio would be closer.

How is the breakdown in yours looking...?

Quite a bit of homerism, I actually picked against the Spartans, Maryland, Iowa, and Indiana. Homerism isn't very strong with this one, I prefer to be right and win the thing than be a homer. Northwestern being home doesn't do much, stadium isn't that large and isn't made with acoustics in mind, nor was is winter in snow or cold, not that much home field advantage in my opinion and Stanford isn't really a team to be heavily affected by not being at home after being used to the Rose Bowl, Autzen, and USCw stadium.

I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. Fedora is incompetent enough to lose this game.

Unfortunately you are correct. We should destroy them but coaching has kept us from reaching our potential.

We had to replace the entire defensive staff this year as a result of a "come to Jesus" meeting with Fedora.
Somebody (the school/AD/Fedora) hired Gene Chizik as DC. Chizik hired former Nebraska DC John Papuchis as linebackers coach and former Nebraska DB coach Charlton Warren. The defense is playing much, much better, but we still run a Mickey Mouse offense.

My theory? North Carolina panicked and put too much emphasis on one game. He was the toast of college football for beating an almost assured BCS bound Houston in the CUSA Championship game. The handful of UNC fans who care about football were vocal in wanting a quality replacement for Butch Davis after the Withers fiasco and UNC grabbed the shiny new toy. As it stands he's pretty much been at UNC what he really is......a mediocre coach who's career signature win is still the 2011 CUSA Championship game.

Ken that 10 point spread must have happened today, yesterday the Heels were -7.5.

The line I quoted was from early this afternoon. Since then, it has moved back down to 10. Lines move often, but twice in a day seems a little unusual to me, especially on a game where you wouldn't expect a lot of traffic. Makes me wonder if there's some news I haven't heard yet.

Can't really dispute that.

From your lips to God's ears, the Wagon Wheel seems like it could be the only thing Kent will be playing for this year.

The takeaway for me here is that there was one outlier whose early line was much tighter than all the others. Frankly, his was the one I would have thought the most reasonable. However, since the spreads are not a reflection of what the bookie thinks the relative strengths of the teams justify, but rather how he thinks bettors will judge them, by game time all the different lines should pretty much converge.

In my experience, whenever I think the bookies have offered me a gimme, I turn out to be wrong.

The battle for the 7th best division in college football is on! I predict the B10 West will prevail 4-1.

According to Jeff Sagarin's conference ratings the B1G West is the 4th best conference division so far this year. Better than the B1G East, Pac-12 North, both ACC divisions and the SEC East.

How would the Big 12 rank if it was considered a 10-team division.

According to Jeff Sagarin's conference ratings the B1G West is the 4th best conference division so far this year. Better than the B1G East, Pac-12 North, both ACC divisions and the SEC East.

In years past, Sagarin's site used a clear disclaimer that said his ratings were not valid until at least around week 5 or so, after more teams had played each other. Don't know why he dropped the disclaimer.

To show why and how they are invalid, consider the Illinois-UNC game. Sagarin's ratings would say that Illinois should be a 3 point favorite this week over UNC (Illinois' rating is 6 points higher, less 3 points for UNC's home field advantage). Instead, UNC is actually favored by 10 1/2 - a two touchdown swing. So let's hold off a while before we start comparing conferences and divisions based on Sagarin.

so far ACC up in first 2 games. Illinois doesn't look good at all vs UNC. Duke up 7-3 on Northwestern.

The sad thing is that many Illinois players probably aren't even embarrassed. The program has been that bad.

It feels from afar H1 that the program should be WAY better than it has been. Pretty decent location. Good History. What gives?
