Why would Charlotte want to take a step back to a weaker football conference? Am I missing something?
For the same reason Marshall would...in a heartbeat. And you know it even if you don't want to admit it.
We would? Why would we? Why would we pay big exit fees and a large entry fee to a conference that is a step back in football? I think some of you American Conference fans truly over value what you have. You have a nice collection of basketball schools but when it comes to football, you are behind the MWC and CUSA. The days of having the Big East brand with schools like Louisville, Pitt, Rutgers, WVU and others are gone. That's just reality.
First, Marshall will likely never face this choice; CUSA is Marshall's ceiling, and frankly I think the MAC was a much better fit overall for Marshall.
Second, IF the AAC invited Marshall, they certainly wouldn't consult you and wouldn't stop for a second to consider your emotions. And I suspect you'd suddenly be all-in-favor of jumping. These decisions are made purely on the basis of power and finances and the AAC offers more of both than CUSA does. The Marshall administration would JUMP at the chance to be in a trans-regional conference that pays twice even what CUSA does.
If that day came, Marshall would pay whatever exit and entry fee and they would do it gladly...and the Marshall fanbase would be then talking smack to the remaining CUSA fans. It's not even a question.

Really? I remember you guys having a couple good seasons under Mullen as the OC. I thought he was well liked in Morgantown. No?
He doesn't have the best rep in Morgantown among most WVU fans. I figured that info would have filtered down to Huntington. Or are you out of the state, like me?

Since when did the American pay twice in conference tv revenue? Last I checked, you guys make 1.8 per team while CUSA makes 1.4 mill per team. 400k is nothing in the overall scheme of things. Especially when you consider exit fees and a 2 mill entry fee.

American's is 2M per (for both ESPN and CBS deals). CUSA has been reported at 1M per in various reports. If that's wrong, then the reports that many have read are wrong.
BTW, are you watching Temple spank Penn State. Maybe you spoke too soon and should have waited for more than 2 or 3 games to be played.
Appericate all the support! Excited that we joined club of FBS, big boy football! Here is ESPN showing us some love with our 1st FBS win against Georgia State!

I think that's mostly if you look at state maps and not school locations, and focus on conference footprint to the exclusion of divisional footprint ...
... the MAC is a Great Lakes conference with only two all-sports exceptions (MiamiU and OhioU), and CUSA East, with WKU, ODU, Charlotte and MTSU and the F_Ux2 island in south Florida recruiting grounds is a quite comfortable fit for Marshall.
Thanks for the congratulations. It was huge for our school and football program. I was proud to be present for both our first ever victory and FBS victory. Not many people can say that about their football program.
I feel for Georgia State. Their fans were classy. They have some talent and will win a game this year.

Economically, the MAC is a classic "bus conference," where both the teams and fans can drive to all the games, whereas CUSA is far-flung even within the divisions. Emotionally, Marshall has history with the MAC members...especially with Ohio and Miami-Ohio... and Huntington is really part of the Ohio Valley more than the South.
Many of those same reason are why I'd like to see Charlotte one day in the AAC.
