Atlanta-area police officer shot after responding to wrong home
Let me preface this by saying that I am not posting this as an anti-police article. My thoughts and prayers are with both the officer and the homeowner. I just thought it was an interesting situation and wanted to see what your opinions were on it.

How do you guys think this should be handled from a legal standpoint?

They'll probably charge the homeowner with something, even though he was within his rights and shouldn't be.

Wasn't that long ago that police officers acted on a no-knock warrant and one was shot and killed. That homeowner is being charged with murder. Wouldn't surprise me to see something similar happen with this case (although clearly not murder since the cop didn't die).

No mention of charges against the homeowner/victim in the article.

This should not happen. The officer made a very bad mistake. I sincerely hope he is okay but the bottom line is that he was at fault.

The same thing happened to me a few years back. My neighbor's house alarm went off silently. I had no idea what was going on, suddenly, I see a cop in my backyard looking in the windows. When I opened the back door, I surprised the heck out of him.

Thankfully, he didn't draw his gun. I explained to him I was the home owner and that he had the wrong house. It took me a few minutes to convince him of this. To his credit, he was not aggressive in any way.

And no indications of such from the police chief. He was wishing both the officer and homeowner full recoveries.

There haven't been enough details on what actually happened in the house.
