RE: Trumps Immigration Plan
A Mex-Am. F105 jet fighter pilot in Thailand had a picture of the original Frito Bandito painted on the side of his airplane. I'm proud to say that we shared the same last name and we're very few in numbers.
The first time we met we both glanced at our last names and we started asking questions about our wherefroms. He was from California and even though I do have relatives there we weren't (as far as we knew) related. He joined our club anyway but wasn't active.

My Dad was the first and maybe only person who told me about Frito Bandito. He always liked Mexican fighters like Duran.

The result: Around 500,000 to 1 million Mexican immigrants and Mexican Americans were pushed out of the country during the 1930s repatriation, as the removal is sometimes called.
During that time, immigrants were rounded up and sent to Mexico, sometimes in public places and often without formal proceedings. Others, scared under the threat of violence, left voluntarily.
About 60 percent of those who left were American citizens, according to various studies on the 1930s repatriation. Later testimonies show families lost most of their possessions and some family members died trying to return. Neighborhoods in cities such as Houston, San Antonio and Los Angeles became empty.
That's the history Trump wants to repeat—indiscriminately kicking out undocumented immigrants and U.S. citizens alike and significantly squeezing the populations of many American cities. God only knows what the process of actually deporting 11 million-plus immigrants would look like. Not to mention the cost.

RE: Trumps Immigration Plan
So, I was at dinner down here in Peru two nights ago and being the only gringo at the table the conversation naturally turned to Trump. At first they were all like, WTF but then once I explained in my best broken Spanish what he actually said, etc they all calmed down and we had a nice laugh along with a few beers and pisco sours.

And this is the way the left works. Nary a mention in that "article" who was responsible for the 1930's deportations. The inferred relationship to Trump's plans plants the seeds in the minds of their clueless readers that this must be a recycled conservative plan.
No, this is how *you* work. You cannot help but throw potshots at those with differing ideologies even if it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. You treat it like a team sport and it's sad.

So does everyone here, including yourself. It isn't an indictment on the left or right, but on the media that has long forgotten it's supposed neutral stance.

I've noticed that Fitbud VERY rarely has original ideas. It's almost always copy/paste jobs or questions.

1. Just because everyone else does it, isn't an excuse for you doing too. Seems someone missed that day in kindergarten. And for the record, I really make it point not to do this, but if you can provide examples, please do.
2. This is not some article which is demonizing the Republican party or conservatism in general, it's pointing out the realities of a plan like this and the historical similarities it shares with it. It makes no sense to put in the fact it was a Democrat president 80 years ago who did it in that context.
Can't you just stop with this wannabe sports-team politics? It helps nothing and only makes you impossible to take seriously in any manner.

We can't even keep our bridges and roads in good shape and we are going to build a wall?

PURE FICTION. Neighborhoods were not emptied in Houston and San Antonio. My Hispanic grandfather (whose 1st language was Spanish and always spoke with a thick accent) did just fine in San Antonio in the 30s. My parents grew up there in the 30s.
Fact is, Texas didn't get hit nearly as hard by the Great Depression as the rest of the country. Total nonsense.

Just because your grandfather wasn't one of them doesn't mean this didn't happen.
