RE: Illinois is looking for a new coach
I have said forever they need to get a top shelf AD that will bring in the right coaches and fundraise in the proper manner.. Its embarassing as an Illini alumn that I have someone from Oklahoma St laughing at our athletic depart.. we are the flagship school of a state with 12 million people, a Public Ivy... basketball should be a top 10 program, football a top 25...

Oklahoma St = Illinois St... yet you have a better football program that Illinois and a basketball program that are about equal, its a joke..

I must have missed the good coaches... Beckman, Zook, Turner, Toepper... Which of those are good??
I'm just saying that nobody has had success there. It's a dead end for a career.

Sounds like you are saying they had no talent to start with. At some point you blame the school/program not the last 5 coaches.

what is bizzarre is both Turner and Zook got Illinois to BCS bowls, only to watch the program fall apart each time.

ILL is different from Indy or Minn in the sense that about once a decade they have a decent team then they go back to sucking for 6-9 years before they have another decent year. Indy never has that break-through season and rarely gets to a bowl. Minn does a good job cranking out low-level bowl teams, but never championship teams.

So you can win at ILL, the real question is why can't it be sustained once they win.

Dude, you need to relax in throwing in some elitism to the conversation and the use of 'we'. Considering the fact you DIDN'T ACTUALLY GO TO SCHOOL THERE. It's one thing to be a fan and throw opinions, it's another thing to claim you went there when you clearly didn't and throw out some elitist comment against another school. Bottom line your attempt at it is inept. Also the only thing that's embarrassing about this is for those that actually have a degree there having to read your comment.

No Okie State is not equal to Ill State. LMAO, bringing them into the convo yet again... One is a land grant institution the other is well...... And you're embarrassing that fanbase too, so..

Going back to the topic, like I mentioned. This summer was pretty tough overall for the institution, brought about by multiple embarrassments. I'm certain that athletics and finding a replacement for Beckman is lesser priority. I don't foresee a new coach until the university gets the chancellor situation figured out an hired which can take a year to do so.

Illinois is just poor. OSU has a nearly 40 million $ advantage in AD budget.

Oklahoma State Big 12 $117,803,302 $109,648,000 $7,521,475 6.38
Illinois Big Ten $80,848,569 $83,112,351 $3,927,372 4.86

Many B1G programs are that way Iowa comes to mind.

That is asking very much. Being a tourney team and getting a bowl annually would be reasonable expectations.

USNWR has Illinois St ranked 142 and Okie St 146... enrollments about the same??

Illinois has an endowment of $2B, OSU is about $600M...

Which has nothing to do with athletics. But congrats. At least you can talk about endowment when everybody else its talking football. LOL.

The funny part is how the state flagship of illinois is so far behind the #2 team in Oklahoma. Compare Illinois to OU and it gets even worse.

Where is all this academic talk from? Amazing how people fall back on stuff that has nothing to do with athletics. LOL

There is a bit of a difference in AD budget
Illinois State Mo. Valley $21,587,420 $21,339,412 $15,112,785 70.01
Oklahoma State Big 12 $117,803,302 $109,648,000 $7,521,475 6.38

Maybe because the fine folks at the University of Illinois are, I don't know, busy thinking about the academic part of the university??

And I apoligize for bringing up academics when talking about COLLEGE athletics, silly , me...

And just checking, it seems like MOST of the time, OSU and Illinois athletic departments spend about the same..

Which all goes back to my point.. Illinois a much better school. much wealthier alumni base, its pathetic that the budget isnt more..
