Correct. Language like that is pretty common in any contract agreement. He's basically been fired for cause.

very true. the fallout may take a years. firing your coach a week before the season starts has a serious impact on the reputation, unless you are getting ready to Row the Boat.

They have hit rock bottom. To do this to players and fans? They suddenly have "information." This guy should have been out months ago, a year + on performance.

This school is in shambles. The new regime saw the fact and can see the future with this guy. Sure they asked WHY THE F IS HE STILL HERE! Thomas is next, just depends on before bball season and new arena or after when Groce will be canned if he doesn't win. They can't let Thomas hire anyone or have a say.

This is worse that losing 20+ in a row. If I was a kid looking to transfer before, I am walking off this team today, transferring anywhere. They wait til tickets are sold, school starts and screw over the players. Wow. Just wow how that campus is like a circus.

He is done with being a FBS head coach for a long time so whats to lose if he feels like he did nothing wrong?

Wouldn't it be a mountain of icing and an orchard of cherrys to see UofI losing a lawsuit to Beckman?

In the last month or so, U of I has seen the Chancellor, Provost, and now Beckman either resign, or get fired. Thomas is likely next on the list. The only one of his 3 major coaching hires that has been okay is Groce, and even he's not wowing people at the moment.

In all honesty, Illinois may have a better HC now in Cubit than they did in Beckman. Cubit was okay at WMU, but had the misfortune of seeing LeFevour's CMU, & then Harnish/Lynch's NIU dominate the MAC in the years he was in Kalamazoo.

Finally, I think the only people who might be laughing at this more than us are the Toledo fans, because Beckman leaving meant they ended up with a better coach in Campbell.

Cubit for all practical purposes was the HC last year and saved Beckman's job, until Beckman effed it up.

Problem with Thomas was he knew Zook was going to be fired and he could not land a top coach. He had to settle for Beckman. His hiring process was WEAK.
