The UI board I frequent is absolutely ecstatic. I don't know that outsiders understand how much the fanbase disliked Beckman. Today is a good day.

My sense is that Cubit gets the job for continuity.

I think we do because we all understood how bad of a football coach he was there, especially me because I live down there.

How bad might they have been if they hadn't done this?

Here's one career that deserves to be over. Who'd want that near a football team.

people will line up, everyone wants a few million even for failing.

I don't think UI is considered a tough job. Then again Minnesota is too and Kill has them in the hunt for the west title.

I don't think they realize how hard the NCAA could be coming down on them for these allegations either lol.

Kill has Minnesota back where they traditionally belong, as a competitive Big Ten team that will never quite be good enough to compete for the conference title. Arguably, they've had a more competitive program historically than Illinois has.

It wouldn't surprise me if Fleck got them back to the level they were at during the Ron Zook era, but I would be very surprised if they went any higher than that.

To have this happen will have lead to some type of penalties for
the program as well

Who's going to pick the next HC after this season, certainly not this AD. They can't wait until near the end of the season, fire the AD, do an AD search then hire a new HC. It won't be PJ. I remember when Bill Self left for KU, UI was stunned that Coach K of Duke was not interested.

No, you don't, because that's 100% false.

RE: Beckman Fired
In all honesty, at the moment, Fleck might be only the 4th or 5th best coach in the MAC. Carey and Campbell are certainly better coaches than he is, and you could argue that guys like Babers and Lembo are ahead of him as well.

Illinois needs what Minnesota has in Kill, someone who can return the program to being competitive, even if they're not challenging for Big Ten titles every year. It's why I've always thought Pete Lembo would make more sense as a hire than Fleck.

RE: Beckman Fired
Bet the AD wishes he would've fired him after the season

Will be interesting to see if they go the safe route and hire someone like Greg Schiano for stability or go balls to the wall with an up and comer (PJ, Babers etc). I still think they'll avoid the MAC just because of the past. Gotta keep those donors happy
