Must've all just thought it was a fluke or just not paying that much attention/lazy.

I really didn't expect any.
But if we really are a top 25 team then we get a chance to show it. The schedule sets up nicely. Start 5-0 and lets see what happens.

I don't know about 5-0 the second and third game are gonna be tough. Follow that up with playing Cincinnati on the following Thursday.

I'm not really sure why not, tbh. We have one of the longest winning streaks in the country, are returning a ton on offense, and have a great coach. Not saying we should have been ranked, but why would Western Kentucky warrant one and we wouldn't?

Maybe... and this is my tin-foil hat speaking... they want to set it up to where WK climbs higher in the polls due to initial position as far as getting that access bowl spot. If they can do that, it reinforces their position that all of the "G5" is a homogeneous inferior product to the lowest "P5" conference, and a further indication that they were right to leave the AAC out of the "P6". Now, who is most likely to go undefeated? Who has the weakest schedule? I see they play @ LSU. Other than that, I don't see a great deal of difficulty. Well, Realtime RPI says Marshal is 3 points better in ranking than LSU, but I HIGHLY doubt that...

RE: Not a single AP vote either
Last year, for last year, was not a fluke. Scored more points and allowed less than any other team in the league. Only one win during the season was even close, then the bowl win was close. The other wins were pretty dominating.
Whether that translates to THIS season, we shall see. The bigger key is that the team is solid. That would show that even in a rebuilding season, at least on defense, the team can still win. That would apply with even a modest 7-5 record...meaning on the way up...still. Then you have a senior QB and more experienced defense the following season.
Again, with that, if the defense plays well, even if short of last year's team, this could be another really good season. No single game will be ungettable.

lack of top 25 votes is going to help Fuente keep the fire under these kids to prove it wasn't a fluke.
Yeah, I was kind of upset when I first realized that we got no love from the AP either...but I realized that these voters did the Memphis coaching staff a favor...in making these young men stay hungry looking for respect.

RE: Not a single AP vote either
in basketball preseason rankings are nice but worthless
in football...esp the G5 and the whole access bowl spot, pre season rankings are a big deal
If Boise starts ranked let's say #15 and UC or Memphis are not ranked....then the access bowl is Boise's to lose whereas UC and Memphis would have to 'claw' their way into it.

Not worried about it. Found it interesting. Take care of business and the votes will come. This was probably a good thing.

It will take more than one year to earn the pre-season respect. But i think we will walk the walk and it will take care of itself. Go undefeated going into OM and hope they do the same and grab people's attention.

Bulletin board material. And will you all stop saying "if" our defense does as well as last year? They will. Trust me.

Tough to cheer for Old Piss to win every week until us but I agree. That game has the potential (stress potential) to be a huge (program solidifier type) game.

Not necessarily true any longer now that you have a committee and not a computer deciding who gets the slot.
And Cincy getting votes is excellent to be honest...The easiest way to get ranked is to beat a ranked team.

RE: Not a single AP vote either
If we deserve to be ranked, we will be after we finish the season. If not, then so be it. As several folks have already stated, I like the motivation that these voters are providing to our team.
