Here's the situation. WWIII, US vs China or Russia. All conventional, no nukes.

How does the US ramp up enough production to replace lost hardware? We don't have a long ranger bomber in production. Are we able to start churning out new B-52s? Do we ramp up production on the unproven F-35 to replace lost fighters, do we start building the older legacy fighters instead? The F-22 production line was not only shut down but the tooling destroyed if I remember correctly.

Where do we do this? Are our weapons too specialized to have vehicle factories start production on F-16s and F-15s?

I started thinking about this the other day, I don't think a current war would last as long as the old ones did.
