But being dyslexic toward his salary would probably be nice, say, $358,000 annually? Or maybe even $85,300 if we get someone who's a real philanthropist toward making UAB better and not in it for the money! Even so, I'm not sure if I would take a university president job for a mere $85,300...

I think our next president should be compensated solely by donor support.

That's a ridiculous idea. Does any other school do that? Yes Watts is overpaid, but the President should be paid by the school. It has nothing to do with athletics.

See what I did there was reference how we have to pay for football ourselves. It was a joke. I will put in blue next time. My bad.

In the changing landscape of higher education, you have to ask yourself: Do you want a president or not? In order to keep our focus on cutting-edge medical research, we simply cannot afford to redirect university funds to compensate our leadership beyond that of full professors. Therefore, the salary of the president must be capped there, and any additional compensation must come from a private/ public fundraising partnership to fill the financial delta between said base salary and the total compensation of presidents at our peer institutions.

How's that for a derail?

To paraphrase Bill Clark, I may not be a genius, but look at my record and assume that I've got at least some walking-around sense.

Hey MB, I think bernreuter just "Memphis Blazered" you. I'd take getting beaten at your own game as a compliment... the next generation is adopting the snarky haze.
