OT - Under Armour introduces "ungrabbable" football jersey
Check this out: http://www.sporttechie.com/2015/08/06/maryland-football-introduced-to-under-armours-ungrabbable-jersey/
Quote:Under Armour may have yet again outdone itself with its release of a football uniform which is claimed to be “ungrabbable”. The Maryland Terrapins were provided with a uniform made of the new garment for testing, while Notre Dame, Auburn, Utah and Cincinnati will all wear it in the upcoming season.
It is being called ‘ArmourGrid’ and has been touted as “The toughest jersey Under Armour has ever made: stronger, lighter, and virtually ungrabbable” by MarylandPride.
“This incredible new football jersey is built with ArmourGrid technology—the strongest, lightest, most durable fabric in the game…Under Armour created it for one reason: to make you ungrabbable on gameday.
. . .
What this means for Under Armour’s competition is that if jersey-makers do not replicate similar technology they may be left behind in American Football.
Brands like Nike, Adidas and Reebok have long been the preferred clothing brands for many sports, but as we’ve seen through a variety of new business angles, Under Armour is fast approaching the top.
While many sportswear companies focus on things like weight and comfort, new ways to create a competitive advantage on the field seem to come in second. The new ArmourGrid technology could soon take over football and flood through the NFL if it is proven successful this season.

Tearaway jerseys were used in the 1970s until the NCAA banned them. Running backs were being shuttled in and out of the game to replace jerseys.
