Tiger Football Bragging Point
How many"G5" programs can say that they have beaten 10 of the Top 20 most successful teams over the last 50 years (Alabama, USC, Florida, FSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Miami, BYU, Arkansas, Virginia Tech) at least once?

Shibest has been his best hire.

I read somewhere that Memphis finished 2, 3 and 2 in special teams since Fuente was hired - only two other schools since 94 have finished three consecutive years in the top 10 or something like that...can't remember one of them but the other was Florida State.

I agree Shibest was a great hire, how does it relate to GA's post?

He was talking about a bragging point, so I provided another bragging point I just read about.

In wasn't just a defensive turnaround under Odom, the special teams (a much overlooked part of the game) is one of the best in the nation.

I agree. I took the opportunity to tell Coach Shibest exactly that, and thank him last Winter at a Highland Hundred meeting. A very likable fellow.

A far cry from when we had that poor kid from Briarcrest returning punts.

How many Top 5 teams care what happened 50 years ago?

We need to think about now

I can answer this!! Tennessee fans incessantly talk about the past. That's pretty much all they do. But here is a historical fact a Vandy grad told me the other day that I thought was interesting.

While it's true that since 1975, Vandy has only beaten Tennessee 5 times, in that same time period, Tennessee has only beaten Florida 6 times?

Hm. I was just pointing out that it's a weird anomaly of historical outcomes. I don't think games played 40 years helps anyone lol.

Against Auburn it's 2-0.
Florida, I believe, it's 1-1.
Arkansas it's 4-3.
USC is 1-0? I don't recall a return game.

Just those 4 we're up 8-4.

I didn't know we've beaten Miami.

We used to beat FSU fairly regularly until they hired Bobby Bowden.

And we also used to be Virginia Tech regularly.

Another link: http://michigan-football.com/ncaa/f/memphis.htm

I thought we had an 8-game contract with Arkansas and had played 7 for a 4-3 edge.

Instead, apparently, it was only 6 games with 5 played for a 3-2 edge.
