RE: ASN to reach 94 million homes this season
Most ASN games in the Miami market are on the CW or MyNetworkTV. The thing is, when I search 'football' on Staurday afternoons, I get a list of every game being covered by Comcast (even on the most obscure channnel) and then chose the most intriguing. I don't have a go-to channel for college football, my go-to is my search feature. So I really don't care who's producing the game, whether it be ASN or ESPN I'll find it.

It's not piped into 94M homes. Not even close.

This is like CBS Sports claiming to be in 100M homes when in reality, most of those homes would have to pay extra for a premium sports tier in order to see the channel.

CBS Sports isn't tracked by Nielsen either.

Moreover, as we know from the ratings on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPNews not to mention Fox & Fox Sports 1, the further you wander away from the main network to a specialized sports channel, the worse your ratings get.

ASN? Gimme a freaking break. No casual viewer watches games on that channel.
It's not a channel. It's a syndicated network.

Some of the viewership numbers have been terrible but some have been great. Uab-Marshall had over 200k viewers on asn's network last year.

Charlotte games had 20-30k viewers just in our local viewing area, which was often the #1 game during the noon timeslot.

Those games were on top level channels though. The games on digital sub channels didn't fare as well.

This is the first time I've ever heard of ASN. Seriously. And I have Charter, who is usually aggressive about adding sports to their digital tiers.

How are they defining homes?

ASN is theoretically available in 555k homes in the Little Rock TV market. Without an antenna, very few of the homes can actually see ASN.

I live in the Little Rock TV market, and we have all the Little Rock Channels, and never saw any ASN sports on tv. I saw Old Dominion football game on NBC Sports as they were part of the CAA conference. C-USA games are shown here on CBS Sports.

Interesting that they want to become a 24 hr sports network inside of a year.

Again....it's not a channel. It is a syndicated network that broadcasts events on a number of different channels across the country, mostly Ota channels, althought sports channels like nesn and man have picked up the games as well.

I'm charlotte, we don't have any Sinclair owned stations, so our local CW affiliate broadcasts the game. It's no different than me watching a Georgia Tech game here in Charlotte on the Raycom sports network. Raycom isn't a channel it's a syndicated network, just like ASN.

Not sure how they would pull off a 24 hour sports network like they want though. ASN is a nice opportunity to strengthen sports broadcastin for cord cutters though since the vast majority of the games are on OTA networks. The production value also looks great. Much better thana many espn3 games I've watched for Mac and sunbelt teams.

ASN to reach 94 million homes this season
This network is much better than ESPN3, where games were seen by an average of like 3,000 fans I think. Can't remember if that was for the MAC or MWC. Some games on ASN last year got solid ratings, mostly UAB from the Birmingham market.

MAC games drew 3k. NCAA track championship averaged 3600 viewers per hour over 25 hours with much of that available on regular tv, LSU baseball averaged over 6k, LSU vs UL Lafayette NCAA baseball tournament game drew 136,000 viewers, U.S. World Cup games averaged over 1 million viewers on ESPN3

RE: ASN to reach 94 million homes this season
So ASN is basically what SEC+ was before the SEC Network launched? I could get 1 SEC football game every weekend on some random local channel that had no network affiliation (channel 39 or 52 in Dallas I think)?

I think I may have watched an A&M game on whatever channel was broadcasting the SEC+ that weekend in 2012 or 2013 once. Pretty sure I haven't watched whichever actual channel it was on since then, and would have no idea if it the same channel was 'ASN' at some random time during the month.

Long story short: If you're not a channel, you're not a channel. You aren't in any homes. The ASN is in 94 million homes LESS than what in indicated in the title of this thread.

No offense meant to the ASN, I'm sure it's probably making some money. But its not a real network. It may claim to be on my tv (I have UVerse) but until I see a channel called ASN its not in my home, and has no right to say it is.

I'm amazed at how hard a concept this is to grasp for some. Syndicated network (think Raycom, Big XII Network, ESPN Plus, SEC TV).

Well, the reactions are very predictable. ASN made strides in syndicating games last season, their first. They are growing but are not a threat to espn of fox, of course. But the naysayers are the non C-USA fans who constantly want to belittle anything associated with the conference. Any news, if even mildly good, is scoffed at. To be expected. I see a good, if not great, future for ASN and C-USA.

I enjoyed streaming their productions of the away Rice baseball games. And it was all C-USA talk during the production; no endless pimping of the SEC in the background.

More frequently on NESN+. NESN+ was set up to be NESN's overflow channel, when games to which it holds rights conflict with each other, occasionally Red Sox/Bruins in the spring, but also ACC football and basketball when they conflict with the Red Sox or Bruins. There's a lot of dead air on that channel, and I believe ASN is "barter" (free to carry, but ASN gets to run ads), so it's a great opportunity to add content.

That is the most refreshing thing about it. The broadcasts are about the game on the field, not a commercial for whomever Alabama is playing that weekend.

There was no Sinclair station in Charlotte last season, and yet, I saw 2 or 3 ASN produced CUSA games every Saturday on local (cable) TV stations last season. If Sinclair/ASN has increased the distribution/affiliate network, it is great exposure for the league.

The production quality was surprisingly good for a network that was just slapped together a couple of months before the season started. I also liked their streaming options.

Looking forward to what they can do this season, including the new studio show.
