Oh SNAP, I certainly hope not. Is Karl and the Belt getting desperate? CCU as a last resort.

Why are they a last resort?

I'm not a Troy fan because of wins and losses.

CCU is a small school (just over 10,000 enrollment), small alumni base, small endowment (around $35 mil.), not a good add at all. The SBC can do much better than to bring in an average FBS program. They do, however have a fair basketball program coached by Cliff Ellis, a proven winner. JMO.

Arkansas State has a Jonesboro campus enrollment 14,000 and an endowment of $52 million and when we moved up Coastal's numbers were better than ours were.

Speculation is CCU would come in all sports but football and move football at a later date.

RE: Coastal Carolina
I think I mentioned before that I was part of a committee that reviewed CCU's interest in the SoCon. They pushed hard for an invite. Pulled out all the stops. Their administration has a higher vision for their program and they have been wanting a bigger Stage for years. They really have made investments since then, and unquestionably have the results in the form of NCAA bids to prove that.

Don't let the professional and diplomatic rhetoric from CCU fool you: They are in full orgasam right now in Conway. If they can swing it, they are going to do it. We are not calling them if EKU was a slam dunk. No need, if you think about it logically.

The fact that they have acknowledged contact is HUGE for those that follow realignment, and for an idea of where their thinking is on the notion of SBC membership.

They just put EKU, the Big South and students, alumni and fans on notice. Exciting times.

They will be kicking butt and taking names in the SBC in no time. Might contend for your spot in the middle of the conference 05-stirthepot

Do you think the west schools try to block an addition of coastal Carolina?

Another question...now that our AD (Matt Hogue - see above) has acknowledged contact/discussions with the Sun Belt, how soon will an announcement be forthcoming? Possibly within the next few weeks??

I don't think so. You guys are going to give us an indication how fast this is moving through contacts you have on campus. This decision will involve the BOT at some point. The fact it's public means there will be a more public discourse on your campus. SBC's Benson isn't going to mention something to the public he's not supposed to. The fact that CCU is clearly acknowledging it and even going so far to say they are interested in hearing what we have to say speaks volumes.

I still think more has to be done. If rumors are true that EKU got an SBC visit this week, that means the committee has not completely finished its work.

I think there will be a recommendation made by the committee in August. Things may calm down for a while in fact.

Dude you need to pay attention. Wouldn't be talking with EKU or CCU if the west was going to c*ck block them.

RE: Coastal Carolina
To the people against CCU, but for NMSU: What does NMSU have that CCU doesn't?

By my count:

Football: CCU>NMSU
Basketball: NMSU>CCU (CCU is definitely on the upswing though, with two straight tournaments)
Baseball: CCU>NMSU
Academics: Neither are anything to write home about but I guess NMSU.
Attendance: Both bad.
So basically a wash there, but when you consider the whole travel partner scenario, the men's soccer, and potential, I think Coastal is the best available besides JMU.
I want both to join though.

I know our leading astate tipster ArkstFan seems pretty confident that not only CCU is the leading candidate but seems to indicate our administration would be supportive but I still think the preference from our Admin is to take an already established FBS program in NMSU and make them full members. I base that from the radio interviews both Terry Mohajir and John Brady did expressing the notion of NMSU being FBS and having "solid basketball and Olympic sports." It's one thing to say that off the record but to go on radio and state publicly I feel that's gotta have some merit.

Coastal has a big banquet on August 28th maybe they will have an answer by then.

I don't see a reason to wait to announce with football staying in the Big South for now.

The Big South might even keep their basketball tournament here they like the location.

The Big South's commissioner stated schools will look to move up like he supported it.
