Throwing shoulder? I didn't think he looked too bad today but that was certainly a bad, way-too-hard throw to a player right in front of him.

I forgot his name but he came in for a series after mcmahon’s 2nd pick 6.

Threw an INT on 3rd down (not a pick 6) and TJ played most of the rest of the way

According to the box score, only McMahon and Green played.

I'd guess that Johnson is 3rd string, but who knows with how the last two years have gone. Gotta either be him, Itraish (RS Freshman), or Padgett (Freshman).

The second pick-six was in and out of Rozner's hands. We couldn't sustain drives.

No defense at all today, but our guys aren't used to keeping up with that caliber of talent. I think we'll destroy McNeese State.

I tend to stay off the comment section because it has become so repititious
Mostly due to our inept athletic department. But some of you have crossed the line tonite. I don’t think Wiley Green will lead us to the promised land.
However the comments about him were like he is a piece of trash. He doesn’t name himself the starter. He is the epitome of RFND. Remember when he was stretchered off in the Wake Forest game. Then I think he had some major ankle dislocation. He could have stayed and gotten his degree and given up football, and some of you will say you wish he did. Tonite I still think a college receiver should be able to catch a fastball from 10 yards, but nonetheless many D1 quarterbacks would have waved at the Dback as he ran by. Looked to me that Wiley will have a torn rotator cuff of his throwing arm and is probably done for the year. But tonite the comments about him were too personal. I am disappointed as anyone that we got blown out again by a team that was much faster than us. I don’t know if coaches told TJ not to run so we wouldn’t lose 2 quarterbacks in our one of our 2 annual body bag games but it seemed to me that Wiley had better pocket poise but who knows it looked like Aaron Darnold was playing for SC.

Green should just give up football for his health. Seems like he gets hurt every year. I hope he can come back.

Year 5 and we’re somehow even shittier than year 1. **** Bloom, **** JK, and **** this entire program. I hate that I clearly give more of a **** about rice football than anyone who actually works for the school

Part of me agrees with you. But part of me thinks, hey, no one called him a piece of trash *human being*. We're just venting our frustration at the program, and the QB position included. Saying that a player should hang up the cleats, on a sports forum, seems pretty mild compared to any other school's sports forum.

4 years plus 1 game of Bloom and some still think we can improve this year? We don’t even deserve to be on the same field with a top 75 program. Once again a total embarrassment and this could be just the second worse game this year, UnlessUH treats it like a scrimmage after the first quarter.

Do we have the talent to play better…I’d like to think so but we will never find out with Bloom in charge.

Other than the score, the only reference to the Owls - “For at least one game against an inferior opponent, …”. Of course, that was more than I could find from Chron.com this morning. Probably a good thing.

AP feed was on Page 3 of the sports. Banner under the giant photo of the Tune end zone leap in 3OT on the sports cover had the Texas, A&M and Rice games mentioned. We do have a prominent ad at the bottom of the cover page for the McNeese State game. Good luck selling tickets for that one.

As is the case any time we play a top 60ish team in the country in the Karlgaard era, we got blown off the field. I’m sure he’s selling Desroches hard on all of his excuses and why he thinks that is just fine and dandy.

That said, I saw enough talent on the field that I think we can beat McNeese and the dregs of C-USA to compete for 6 wins and a bowl game. Again that is not what I would aspire to, but that seems to be the Karlgaard/Bloomgren dream so maybe, just maybe they can achieve it this year.

Anybody remember that I said not to take the points, that Rice tends not to cover the big spreads?

I was pleasantly surprised by the first quarter. I thought Green did a good job.

But I knew that eventually the wheels would come off.

Per final stats, Green and McMahon were only QBs who threw passes.

I try (perhaps not always successfully) to avoid personal attacks on players. Same for fellow posters on here FWIW.

This was just an awful, awful mismatch. Whether it should be, or would be if the Rice program were in more capable hands, is up for debate, but no doubt that it was. Pretty much what I expected, similar to ND in 2014. Rice actually played fairly competitively until about mid second quarter, but three pick sixes and the rout was on.

RE: Rice Football vs USC in 2022
Might be worth a separate thread but my daughter plays D-1 sport at a different school and the threads are very personal against players. Most of us have been on threads at other schools and see that Parliament may occasionally criticize player performance but on a relative basis, it is absent and rarely/if ever personal in nature. The criticism is 99% on the Coaching, AD, President, University, other posters here, etc.

However, a question is that now that we live in a NIL world is how much criticism a player should be subject to if he/she is now accepting $ that are above/beyond the scholarship? Seems like this is one of the unintended consequences of NIL. Once you take $ for your role, the criticism of your play, attitude, etc. follows.

I have no idea what Wiley Green has in NIL deals but I’d be shocked if it were zero given what I’ve seen from my daughters experience to date with players not even in FB or Basketball getting some modest $ for playing their sport.

Welcome to the new world teaching kids at earlier age that $ will have strings/responsibilities attached. Not sure if that is good or bad. As long it is not personal, criticizing bad QB throws and receiver drops for giving up a bunch of Pick 6’s that changed trajectory of the entire game from semi-competitive to blowout seems reasonable as player $ have now entered the system.

Totally agree. It amazes me that so many of you guys think this is still 1960, and that we didn't just play against arguably the best coaching staff in the country, the best QB in the country, the best WR in the country, and among the best LB and RB in the country, etc.
Sure we got beat. We all expected to get beat bad. And when you're up against bigger, faster, stronger, you tend to rush throws, overthrow alittle, and tighten up, etc...which leads to tipped balls, etc. Disappointed? yes. Shocked? no.
We're not an elite team -- duh.
But I think the overall talent on the team has steadily improved, and it looks like Bloomgren may have finally relinquished alittle control of the offense to Tui.
I think we can win 6 or more - - all depends on QB going forward, and if we can stay healthy.
