Official and unofficial tailgating policy
Can anyone share what's the policy regarding tailgating at home LU football games? Do campus police require adult beverages in cups? If adult beverages are a no-no at tailgating and one is caught, what is the official and unofficial policy.
As higher profile teams come into Williams Stadium, larger traveling fan bases will accompany them. As we all know, tailgating at most FBS schools includes food and booze.

Alcohol is prohibited on campus at LU, however it's not a crime unless you're intoxicated or underage. As a VA LEO and former LUPD Officer, I can tell you that we never had time to go inspecting people's coolers nor did we ever want to. I don't think the admin would've wanted us to do that either. We only responded to actual complaints on visitors or students, and that was rare. Most likely, you'd get asked to put it away, pour it out if open, and/or leave if you're argumentative. My disclaimer is that my time there as an Officer was 13 years ago so some things may have changed. However, with most places and people, if you act like an adult, you'll be fine.

I thought that was the case and am glad to hear that's it's basically the same at most schools. Years ago I used to go to UVA games and that was the policy there. Just put it in a cup. Don't act stupid and use the port-a-john. LU has taken some strong ribbing over how tailgating is perceived from SBC posters. I always thought the mensa level low of one who would diminish the quality of how one tailgates without adult beverages. There, one is one seeking more of a good time that a good game.

Last year my brothers and I met in Lynchburg for the Homecoming game. We sat in the parking lot, talked with lots of fans and students, drank some adult beverages in a red solo cup and had a great time. Don't listen to those on the Sunbelt board that have no clue what they're talking about. Don't make a fool of yourself and you'll be fine.

LUorange's description remains how it has been operated for years. The key is being respectful and courteous and not overt in flaunting the dry campus designation. It rarely is an issue.

RE: Official and unofficial tailgating policy
Somewhat unrelated, but funny. Around 2002 or so, I remember LU hosted a men's basketball tournament sometime near Thanksgiving...it was Liberty, William & Mary, Hampton, and Albany...I think those were the teams.
I think Liberty played Hampton in the first game...and then William & Mary played Albany in the nightcap. After the first game was over...they closed the concession stands...I was waiting in line to get a soda...so were many W & M people...and the workers closed the concessions and stopped serving...people were getting upset (I was too)...but then I sarcastically said to the W&M fans, "Hey...Don't you know we're a dry campus...we don't drink at all...not even sodas...we'll have to go get some swabs for our dry mouths..." The people loved it and were cracking up...after about 15 minutes they reopened the concessions...I guess there was a shift change or something...but geesh...it was between games and we were thirsty.

RE: Official and unofficial tailgating policy
Are there no parking areas just off campus that provide the opportunity for tailgating and enjoying adult beverages that still offer close access to the stadium?
I know when I would tailgate for Louisville games, we would often park away from the stadium, in public parking, and then walk to the stadium.
It seems that the Liberty campus is small enough that there would be places just off the campus that could be used since the campus is dry.

There is a shopping center nearby and a mall that isn't much further. I think both are owned by Liberty but I wouldn't expect to see any on-duty LUPD there since those locations aren't "campus."

It just seems folks would have the integrity to abide by campus rules while visiting campus. It's not hard to go somewhere that allows you to tailgate with adult beverages and then walk onto campus for the game.
