I'm not sure there's any real difference between a "one-on-one" meeting with AN and JP and a "face-to-face" meeting between JP, AN and his dad. AN and his dad met with JP and apparently informed him AN did not want to attend the U of M any longer and wanted to transfer. And then they gave JP 4 days to consider the situation. I wonder whether there was any further communication between the two groups prior to the email of 7/7? Was it just silence from JP? Did JP attempt to communicate with AN and his dad during the interim? And if so, was there any response from the Nichols?

If there was nothing from JP before the email, I see why they sent the email. What part of "AN doesn't want to play for the Tigers any further" did JP not understand from the meeting? If JP attempted to contact them during this period and no response from the Nichols, then JP should have gotten the message loud and clear.

While I am not privy to team dynamics and history as it pertains to AN, it appears to me that AN was not comfortable meeting with JP in private. That should really speak volumes about what is going on with the Tigers. I've seen references to team dysfunction. We probably don't know the half of it. By all accounts, AN was a model player, student, and teammate. If I've got my finger to the wind, AN looks like the proverbial canary in the coal mine.

This situation was handled extremely poorly by the Tigers. Not only do they come across as petty and vindictive, but as cowards and bullies. In the very least, the Tiger staff and administration appear incompetent and ham-handed. How did you NOT know dragging this out would be a PR nightmare? While the upcoming season could still be a success, I do not think this utter cluster F bodes well.

All this one on one talk is dumb. If you don't trust a person why meet one on one? It's to your benefit to have witnesses.

I can see a scenario where coach Pastner wanted to sit down with Austin one on one and ask, is this your choice or is it your father's? Maybe he suspected Austin's dad was pressuring Austin into it and without dad in the room he might have a chance to keep him here.

Transfers happen all the time. So why did this one blow up in our face so badly? I don't care about timelines unless someone can actually so me the time-date correspondence.

Bottom line is this: our University got punked and our University looks pretty silly and spineless. And, somehow, someway, a 20 year-old basketball player was able to do this? No, I think I am going to pin this one on the 'administration' (Bowen and CJP). How much % you want to allocate to Bowen or to CJP is up to you.

Blame AN all you want, but there's no other way to spin this with regard to its very negative impact on recruiting.

We have fans who have no interest in the answer. The most important points are that AN and his dad did nothing wrong and Pastner did nothing right.

Some of our fans think that restricting where a player goes; a practice that has been in existence since the beginning of time, all of a sudden became ridiculous and undefendable as of last week.

Some of our fans think that it is ridiculous and a waste of time for someone to grant a coach/employer a one on one meeting when they transfer teams or change jobs. Again, this practice, which has been in effect since the stone ages, is now all of a sudden ridiculous and an example of a coach being petty.

Some of our fans think it is "cool" that the lawyer the family hired made those comments about the program.

In case you are wondering who these fans are; they are the ones that don't post anything when we win a basketball game or when something good happens.
