I was wondering that as well. Why reclassify to redshirt? I can see some advantages, but it's not something commonly done.
Prince looks like he already has the body and toughness to play for Cronin. Coming in late will put him at a bit of a disadvantage, but he looks like he can play D and rebound, which is a good way to get on the court.
I'm thinking Brooks time/chances may be up. He is the only player we have who can't guard any position, can't run well and he looked terrible in Canada. That give us Nsoseme, Scott, Diarra, Gillam and Fredericks for the rotation at the 4 and 5.
You could look at it as a year to develop in a college program vs high school.
From a teams perspective that's great. You get a guy you want and an extra year to develop him and get him used to college life before he gets on the court.
But from a players perspective, it seems like a bad deal. He passes up the chance to be a star, get loads of playing time and raise his star-rating (which could help him attract top teir suitors) all to go sit on the bench of a college team. Unless he loved Cincinnati so much he would choose them over any team in the country, it seems like this would be a worse option. Either that, or Cronin told him he will get playing time.

Ehhh I harp on Brooks alot but he's actually a pretty versatile defender for his size. He shut down Connor Frank amp on the perimeter last year to win the game against Wichita St.

give the program an extra year to develop a big... of course this is all speculation. i don't think we could afford to have two redshirt bigs this year or any year. three africans on the team probably with less combined playing experience than logan johnson. i'd rather have waited until next year to fill this spot

If they waited until next year to fill the spot, it would have been with Prince Gillam as well...

Didn’t have a lot of great offers but seems to have some good bounce. Looks like an old school Bearcat forward pickup from the old Huggins days.

Yep, and i think down the road he's a guy who can guard 3 positions which is something they like to have on the defensive end.

Jackson Hayes---15 points,9 rebs. and 3 blocks against #7 UNC and 11 points, 3 rebs. and 3 blocks against #11 Mich. St.--- Remind me again why Mick never even offered a scholarship.

From the 2018-2019 College Hoops Thread:
Mick thought Jaxson was too raw, and was only willing to take a big in the 2018 class who he thought would be ready to start on day 1.
