RIP D'Army Bailey. Dead at 73

I met him a few times. Very smart & likable.

The city will miss him.

As a court reporter, I will really miss being in his court. He was always very kind to me. He had a good judicial demeanor, took his time to rule on matters and I think he was brilliant. He was also one of the most interesting people I have ever met. An iconic Memphian, a lion of his time, and intricately bound with this city and its history. We did not know he was ill, gone way too soon. Memphis has lost a great one.

RIP D'Army Bailey
RIP judge. But he was not a good judge. Usually ranked very poor by the bar.

RE: RIP D'Army Bailey
I've often heard grumblings about his popping on and off the bench, but I still believe he had a fine mind. And the rankings of bar are oftentimes based on politics more than true evaluations, IMHO.

His calm and respectful demeanor far exceeded the ranting and raving and outright screaming and disrepect I see from several of the Circuit judges these days.
