Although the BEST choice would be BYU, which is out west. However their Sunday sports issues would present a problem -- although with BYU so desperate to join a conference, I think they'd be willing to loosen themselves up if joining a P5.

It's a fundamental religious rule for LDS members - there's no "loosening" on that issue for BYU. Granted, I think the Sunday sports issue is way overblown (or it's at least fairly manageable). The rule doesn't matter for football and plenty of other conferences (the WCC, MWC and WAC) have been able to work around BYU on that issue for other sports. It's a red herring issue - it's easy to point to the rule because it's different, but that's not going to get in the way if the Big 12 really wants BYU. The Big 12 may very well not want BYU for entirely different reasons (and the no Sunday play rule just makes the decision a little bit easier).

I think the no-Sunday play issue is a very real issue for an all-sports invitation to the Big-12. If BYU is the choice, I suspect a football only BYU invite makes a lot of sense for both parties.

Sunday play is a minor issue for the Big 12 or any conference. It's actually more of a scheduling concern for NCAA tournaments than for conference play.

Sittler is the most connected journalist in Oklahoma and close to David Boren.

If he says it, take it to the bank.

The banks went bust in 2008. We had to bail them out. Only the Big 12 isn't bailing out anybody. They want to keep their options open.

Nope the church elders who run the school would never agree to that

Actually it was a concern for the Big 12 TV partners and when the schedule championship and games more then the conference

I thought the bigger issue with BYU was that they don't really play well with others. At least that's the reputation. It seems to me that if that's true, then it might be hard to have a conference with two teams that have to have it their way (UT and BYU).

BYU will NOT be joining the Big XII at any time in this century. So just drop it already.

BYU will NEVER join the Big XII. Bet on it.

Please drop the Houston as well. There is no way that a 5th Texas school will join the Big 12. They need tv markets, and the Longhorn Network is already in the Houston area by Suddenlink.

I think suddenlink is available north of Houston in Conroe. Pretty sure it's not available south of there.

I get LHN with U-verse in Houston. It's right with the rest of the ESPN channels.

It's irrelevant. The Longhorn Network has nothing to do with the Big-12. It's UT only and it's owned by ESPN---not the Big12. I think Suddenlink does have some Houston subscribers but is a very small player. The LHN is available on ATT and Comcast, which are the two biggest carriers here. I have LHN, but I also subscribe to ATT's highest tier where most everything (like the sports package) is included. It's probably not a basic cable channel.

I have AT&T's highest tier as well and I also get the LHN. You are correct about the LHN and the Big 12.

You are correct. I just assumed that Comcast also carried them as well and it turns out, they do not.
