RE: Southern Baptist Leader's view of the Confederate Flag
I tend to take Sherman's approach to anyone who flies a confederate flag by looting their house and burning their property to the ground.

Same here...In fact I think you are a douche for flying one. The only exception I would give would be on the grave of a CSA soldier.

To me I always think of the south when I see a confederate flag. I consider myself a southerner. When I think southern I think small towns, friendly people a kindness toward neighbors not typically found in the more metropolitan north that's also my own personal experience. All that said I don't display or own a Rebel flag because it's simply not worth the headache of trying to explain why I would. Yes I'm proud to call myself southern and I think Charleston, SC is a good example why. Neighbors came to support those who experienced great loss, and those going through difficult times welcomed them as family.
I would believe that if people had always flown the flag. However, given the fact that many only started flying it in a show of resistance to civil rights in the 60s, I don't buy it.
Problem is, that's not a fact.
Actually, fitty is right. That flag went quiet for a while and then exploded during the civil rights movement.
None of the "heritage not hate" folks seem to want to take ownership of that.
Its ebbed and flowed. The latter part of the Civil Rights movement happened to coincide with the centennial of the war. There was a lot of interest in the war in the 60s irrespective of the Civil Rights movement.

RE: Southern Baptist Leader's view of the Confederate Flag
Something that doesn't seem to get mentioned much in discussions about the battle flag is the misuse of the flag by the general public, especially Southerners. As I've said, the battle flag is the soldier's flag. It should be respected as representing the sacrifice of men that went off to war. Instead people have trivialized it for profit. I find it extremely disrespectful for it to be used as a beach towel, flag with a something superimposed in the center, tee shirt etc. That is insulting to the honor of those that starved, fought, marched and died.

It's a perfect issue to be left up to a popular vote.

So the SC should head that off then.

Me either. I would actually be embarrassed to fly one, its kinda trashy imo. I also would not want to hurt any of my black friends feelings because it is such a lightening rod for some.
I am a firm believer in someone's right to fly one though. I just think it's kinda silly

Southern Baptist Leader's view of the Confederate Flag
The Battle flag has been a part of society and on display PGT Beauregard asked for a distinguishing Directional Flag for the Confederate Soldier to follow during Battle.
Since well before 1889, Confederate Veterans met at reunions. The flag has been in the public before and since then.

Southern Baptist Leader's view of the Confederate Flag
As for The Pastor's blog, it was well written however factually incorrect. I'm sure he may be able to quote more Biblical passages, but not American history.
1. The Norther quoted the Negro as Chattel, NOT the South.
2. He neglects to admit that the South was acting lawfully under the Constitution of the U.S. ( for those of you that refuse to understand that the South was their own Sovereign Nation.
3. He never acknowledged that the Northern States, some not all, had Slaves until 1868.
4. The Abolitionists were mainly Unitarian Humanist's NOT Christians. More importantly, they may have wanted to Free the Slaves, but they Were Bigoted that they did not want to be around Negroes and outlawed them from entering their States( Indiana and Illinois for example).
•• I do not support slavery. ***
There are more slaves today world wide than in the South from 1863-1865. ** This is very important since this is first time Lincoln mentions Negroes in a positive light. ( This dates back to the Lincoln --Douglas debates).
I'll stop there but the Pastor needs to rewrite this sermon.

Ever heard of NASCAR ? Google the Rebel 300 then. It was held in Darlington,SC. Began in 1957. Winners adorned themselves with the Battle Flag!
But Fit, you don't have to "buy it". "IT",....just bought you !!

That's kinda where I am on it. I wouldn't stop anyone from flying it, but they can't stop me from forming an opinion of them if they do.

I don't fly the flag. My parents are yankee transplants and my ancestors came to this country well after the Civil War was over. I was born and grew up in the South, but have no Southern heritage beyond that. That said, fly it if you want.

RE: Southern Baptist Leader's view of the Confederate Flag
I have one that's on a vintage map of the state, in fact several.
The map has all of the state seals every used which has one. It has all of the flags used which does not. Then, it has all of the national flags of which we were a part, which has one.
It also has a famous quote by Governor Moore.
Nobody has ever said jack about it.
