Today, it is just more about sound and money.
The original rap stars were expressing something and talking about something, theses new ones are just cashing in.
But, hell, country music is going the same way. The **** Nashville is turning out is really no better. And, if we are honest country music went through a phase when it was largely about women and money.
I dislike the new country almost as much as black auctioneer music.
IMHO, 95% of country music is crap. The exception is some classic country ... Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire, Willie Nelson - Pancho and Lefty, etc.
Im am mostly referring to Fla Ga line and that ilk. I like ZBB.
There just isn't quite anything like a 'country song' that references Drake or compares itself to classic Hank and yet falls in a separate genre.
That said, Chris Stapelton. There is the next generation of real country music. Everything the man sings is fantastic.
He has some good stuff. Wish they'd give Jamey Johnson and Sturgill Simpson some air play too.
I grew up listening to country music as a young child. My worked in country radio and I spent many a day running around a radio station. I've always listened to country. About 6 months ago, I just finally gave up the new stuff. Its just so bad. I'd occasionally find a decent song I liked, but wasn't worth suffering thru 15 others to hear that 1 or 2.
