If he fully recovers, he's a steal in line with James Hudson. Kid was a rockstar recruit early in the process prior to his injury...was a Top 250 guy on Rivals for a spell and Top 500 everywhere.
I'm hesitant to say he's anywhere on that level. Allen is a project, and Hudson, is an experienced OL'er. He's far and away a much more complete prospect who can contribute today.
His rating is based largely on potential. He's yet to realize this potential as someone like, James Hudson, has. Allen played like maybe 2 or 3 years of football. He's athletic because he's a hooper, however he's exceedingly green on the gridiron.
From what I understand he suffered a knee injury. Hopefully he can recover.
I suspect we won't really hear from him for 2 to 3 more years. He's a project after all. I love the idea of Coach Crook working with him over those years. The depth we're developing along the OL will allow us plenty of time to help him bounce back and contribute.
As a note...Hudson played one season at OL at Central Catholic (and 4 years of football total) before heading to Michigan and was recruited as a DE/DT, so it wasnt like the kid was a born and bred OL. His arc is very similar to Allen's from HS, and he relied heavily on solid coaching as well as his incredible athleticism (still the fastest get off I've seen) to develop in the position when he was switched to OT midway through his freshman season at UM. They are very similar players in many ways at this stage in my opinion (keep in mind, you're looking at one player 2 years into a college program and another who hasn't stepped foot on a cam pi us yet).
I coached against him for 4 years...so I saw him about as close as one could without being inside the TCC locker room.

I have seen a number of other players on twitter showing they also signed with us the other day. Believe most of them are gray shirts and I have seen no confirmation from UC . Appears that there may be a larger number of gray shirts than in the past. I wouldn't think Mendiola is in the group; pretty sure he will be on scholarship. This new transfer portal system is confusing maybe it impacts the timing on the announcements. With the number of players leaving if seems like we have a number of scholarships available. Hope also to see one or two impact graduate transfers come our way.

I don't think we are taking any Grey Shirts this year. I have been told that Mendiola has qualifying issues. Most the players who are signing to little fanfare are likely PWO.

What about Bryant Johnson II from Butler HS in Vandalia, Ohio? He's a 6'6'' WR and 4 yr. varsity BB player. Have to fatten him up...only 180...but he's 6'6''!
He posted a signing photo, too.

He's exactly what Cincy is looking for on the grad transfer market but that's some stiff competition. Hopefully, we at least get him on campus.

That would be nice...he made an impact against us in the bowl game, was their #1 receiver last year, and would be a grad transfer with one year left in a position with no true #1 coming back. Solid way to transition that position room to all the young guys.

Football Class of 2019
https://twitter.com/rudedawgrules/status...25056?s=21
Proof that recruiting sites are a joke. Some HS students effectively catfished Rivals and 247 by creating a made up high school football player and tweeting out he received an offer from Alabama.
The students created Blake Carrienger, a 6’ 6” 315 lb offensive tackle out of Grace Christian Academy. Based solely on his tweet, Rivals and 247 put them in their databases and rated him a 3 star. No film or tape to analyze or numbers to go off of. Not even a check of the high school’s roster.
Interesting..

I just don't see it. Allen is well regarded due to his size, and potential. Period. He has never done it on the HS level. I think that's important to keep in mind.
I can grant you everything you're saying about, Mr. Hudson, that's all well and dandy. You saw it up close. Not here to tell you otherwise. However, therein lies the difference....you saw it. Literally no one has seen, Mr. Allen, excel on the HS gridiron.
I think this is an important distinction. This is a kid who's entire 'thing' is based on potential.
We were right to spend the scholly on him. He's got physical attributes that could allow him to succeed at UC. It's a worthy experiment. However, I think it's quite a bit of a stretch to saw these kids were on the same level exiting HS, or even going into Sr year (considering Mr. Allen's career stopped at that point).

I personally don't think the recruiting site are a joke at all. There is some bias for sure but for the most part they do a pretty good job. These fake recruits seem to pop up every so often. It's just the nature of the beast. These analysts just don't have the manpower to scout and see every single prospect in the country in a "live" setting. Just too many out there.

Marcus;
Given your observation, isn't the lesser of two evils to not rate a player rather then "rate" a phony player? There is a good faith element to the service provided by these sites. Something like this hurts their reputation and ultimately, i imagine, their bottom line. In a business where there is a significant amount of skepticism about their product already, one would think they would err on the side of caution.

I don't know, but if "Blake" is 6'3" and 315 lbs, let's go after him. I mean, Alabama is not the reigning national champion anymore, so our chances gotta be as good as theirs. (He said, tongue in cheek.)

RE: Football Class of 2019
I guess it's moot at this point, but it sounds like UC offered Dejon Brissett, a grad transfer WR from Richmond, but he just committed to Illinois. Last I heard we've still got 2 schollies to give pending either of the 2 commits who didn't sign getting qualified and taking one or both. I think the takeaway is we're still on the hunt for transfers, especially if we find a good one who can contribute right away at WR.
