College of Charleston article on a possibility of football be added in the future.

You have already posted that. Never going to happen. First off they have nowhere to play. Hard to have a football team with nowhere to play.

I'm not familiar with the area, but I wonder if The Citadel's Johnson Hagood Stadium might be a possible site at least on a temporary basis? A high school used the stadium as its home field for the 2015 season after the high school's own stadium had safety issues.

http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20...re-debated

Looking at Google Maps, it looks like Johnson Hagood would be around 2 miles from the College of Charleston campus. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable distance. For example, it is a shorter distance than Colorado State University's main campus is to CSU's current home, Hughes Stadium.

That might work for one season in a pinch like the Burke HS situation, but it's not a long term solution. The Citadel isn't going to want to share a stadium they built, they upgraded, and they maintained to a rival school.

Land is tight and expensive in Charleston. There is nowhere that CofC can build a stadium on the Peninsula economically, and that doesn't even begin to cover the practice facilities, etc. they would need. There simply isn't room at Patriots Point where CofC plays soccer, baseball and softball.

Bellarmine must think it is no longer in the running for a DI spot, as the Atlantic Sun was touted as a likely spot years ago. Or else the OVC will require football now for new teams.

DI and football is a lot to digest in one move. But football brings in a lot of students for limited money, especially if they go no scholarship.

RE: New College Football Teams 2015 to 2018/Who Could Be Next?
I haven't heard much chatter about Division I coming out of Bellarmine lately, so my hunch is that they will be staying in the GLVC. The GLVC began sponsoring football in 2012, so the Knights would have a conference home right away.

If they are going Division I, this gives them the flexibility to go to the OVC (somewhat likely), SoCon (not a great all-sports fit for the SoCon, but an existing relationship), or Atlantic Sun/Big South (who will take anyone). Then of course, there is the Pioneer League model, which could potentially net another $3.4 Million in tuition every year at today's costs.

I posted an article about a month or 2 ago that they are adding sports and looking to join D1. I think Belmont Abbey also mentioned the same goals as well. I do think some conferences might split apart like MVC/MVFC in the future, and conferences would be looking for other schools. Bellarmine and Belmont Abbey both does have an affiliate in sports at D1 like LAX. Might be cheaper for them to have all sports at D1 level and in the same conferences.

Now, waiting for the rest of the NAIA schools that mentioned that they are thinking of adding football start doing so. OKCU said they were thinking about restarting football.

UFTL, if accepted into the NAIA, would join the Sun Conference with the Florida schools and be the 21st team in the Mid South for football.

Waiting for Middle Georgia State to announce their club team to be varsity as well. That would make 22.

UTFL isn't fake, they have an .edu domain name. But they don't have regional accreditation, so we shouldn't even be mentioned for the NAIA. They do have TRACS accreditation, so they could go NCCAA.

This is all you need to know about the "University of Fort Lauderdale" : http://www.uftl.edu/StatementOfFaith.php

People who choose to give their money to this place should not be allowed to obtain federal assistance. I hope that is indeed the case.

Why, because you don't approve of a private college's mission statement? You would have a coronary if you read up on BYU. My guess is your okay with them though since they have had athletic success in the past.

Mercer is already in Southern, and they are so close by to each other. Not sure they will get the invite.
That is only when a team become prominant! At this level...they want to keep travel at a minimum.

Shox,

Any private college can start for any reason it wants and teach whatever it wants, and that's fine with me. If people voluntarily give their own money to such places, that's also fine with me.

Not a dime of tax-payer money should go to such places, however, either directly or indirectly in the form of tuition assistance.
