I imagine the jerseys that each kid got was the bulk of the fee.

At $50 a head ODU just brought in $50000 plus of revenue in three hours.

I wouldn't be surprised if the coaches from other programs paid an entry fee to gain access to the camps as well. However, I think the staff get to pocket the revenue. It all depends on how the contract is laid out for Wilder and company. ODUs gain is the free marketing it got for 1000+ high schoolers.

There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.

Go ODU!

I for one support the camps for no other reason that you gotta take chances like this. It's a much better approach than sitting still. It won't always work out but at least you are trying new things.

If we score 5-10 recruits that are productive and Penn State lands 15-20...it's still a huge win for us (not to mention guys who end up not caring for PSU...transfers....). Let's see how it pans out.

I hope the bulk of the money after the purchase of the shirts went to the staff and especially Ron Whitcomb. He probably spent 100 plus hours on this event. That's equivalent to at least 5k in compensation. ODU'S staff is already under compensated by the standards of the schools we recruit against.

The fact that Virginia Tech doesn't like it is reason enough to do it.

The article said ODU received the shirts at a very steep discount.
They worked out a deal with the company for exposer.

Wish I could get my hand on one!
They are very sharp.

Nice! Win win. I was wondering why it was mentioned so prominently where they came from. Don't see product placement like that in a write up about a camp normally.

I've bought dye jerseys for softball teams and 10 bucks would be insane cheap but with the added pub I could see that.

My last post got too confusing for me because I was talking about retail, and these are clearly camp shirts. I read somewhere today that Whitcom's qb camp is using shirts from the same company, Seige. They probably did get a very low price for volume. I'll stick with my $8-$10 each. Might be a bit more if they are made of a wicking material.

with all the hype and news surrounding our event, i truly hope coach is happily committed to ODU. that ODU is his legacy and is happy to ride it out to retirement with us. his performance in putting these on and his interaction with the coaches and staff of the P5 schools could very well make him a target when jobs open up in those conferences. when the time comes, just say "no" coach.

I think he's firmly planted here at least until his son graduates. 4 years down the road, ideally with a few bowl victories and a C-USA championship in the trophy case, I think he'll have a decision to make. That would be at the 10-year mark for the program.

I hope there's a pay raise in the cards for Wilder sometime in the next few years. He's doing a great job.

Once he graduates, probably in three years, he can transfer without penalty. Just playing Devils advocate.

If BW does leave, I hope we get a coach like Nebraska. We went to an FCS program.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_Pelini

Not really sure how an FCS school can afford to pay him so much.

He's only making $213k per year at Youngstown. Nebraska is still paying him quite a bit to not coach the Huskers.
