Anyone seen any new basketball players on the court yet?
Now that some of the new players are on campus in summer school, are there any on-court observations?

RE: Anyone seen any new basketball players on the court yet?
70's,
My guess is that they are good, there's no doubt about that. This coach knows talent so I don't think that we have a problem. The xfer from Charlotte can play, we all know that. And, the kid from Jacksonville is very good and is a can't miss kind of guy. Same could be said of the other xfer big from Charlotte, you know what your getting and I'm starting to dig it. Think of that kid from Northeastern that kills himself out on the court and does what needs to be done including playing hard-nosed ball. The new guys are the question marks now, but if they consider the kid from Hargrave to be that good, he must be. Where he fits in, either 3 or 4 will be interesting but judging by his half court shot off of 1 foot, I'd say that he must be good. The kid from Atlanta will be interesting to watch as the coach felt he was one of the best rebounders in the nation last year. He looks like a guy that can rebound out of position and can really run as a 4 man. I'm intrigued by the kid from the Charlotte area that has nice length and athleticism. He could be a good 2/3 man in an uptempo game-has serious upside potential and he's already proven that he's good. Hawks have some guys that have some serious bounce to their step for sure and should really fit in to Keatt's system. The shooter/scorer from Florida should be able to knock down shots from the get go. Future is very bright for the program for sure.

Thanks, Bill. I know a lot of folks have seen the four transfers that practiced with the team last year play. I was really looking for some eyewitness observations of the newest crop of guys.

Any update on the plan to potentially play overseas this summer?

Bahamas in August.......Atlantis

Very nice heads-up, Ms. Cottoball.

Summer Of Thunder Teams Announced

The Bahamas Basketball Federation is set to host its annual Summer of Thunder Exhibition beginning August 1st at the Sir Kendal G.L. Issacs Gymnasium.

The showcase is designed to expose local talent to an international style of basketball, as well as give Bahamian players a chance to compete against some of the best collegiate basketball players the NCAA has to offer.

The exhibition also allows young Bahamian athletes to familiarize themselves with potential tertiary level institutions in which they could possibly attend.

This year there are 14 Division I programs that are expected to participate in this year’s event, including: The University of North Florida, Ball State University, Eastern Illinois University, Georgia Tech, Saint Louis University, Southern Utah University, Youngstown State University, University of Central Florida, University of North Dakota, Middle Tennessee St. University, University of North Carolina Wilmington, Bethune-Cookman University, West Virginia University and the University of Texas Arlington.

BBF first vice president, and event organiser, Mario Bowleg, said that the event is growing in recognition and is making a name for itself on the international scene.

“The tournament is only getting bigger and expanding and even though we have 14 teams here, there are more that wanted to participate, Wichita State who was a Sweet 16 team in the tournament wanted to participate this year and said if they don’t make it this year, they definitely will next year” said Bowleg.

The field lacks the star power of last year’s field, which boasted the Number 1. Ranked team in the country in The University of Kentucky who featured several potential NBA prospects.

Despite the fact there are no teams ranked in the top 20 in any preseason polls, the teams participating in this year’s event should provide tough competition for our local players as two teams (WVU, UNF) were among the 64 selected to compete in this year’s NCAA tournament.

“There are about nine local teams that are set to play including The Asue Draw Regulators, PJ Stingers, The Bahamas Select Team, Elite Ballers, Real Deal Shockers and the College Of The Bahamas has also confirmed that they will be playing and we’re still waiting on conformation from the other two teams” said Bowleg.

Bowleg also noted that he expects a good turnout from the public and that he expects the 9th to be the biggest draw of the event.

“August 9 which is a Sunday we expect to have about five games that day. Everybody loves playing the Sunday games and the crowd is normally at it’s best on that day” said Bowleg.

Bowleg also noted the limiting of local teams in he event to have those participating to be better conditioned and make for more competitive games.

I like the lineup. Enough firepower to make it worthwhile, but not so much that we can't make some noise. WVU and GT stand out as good tests where we can potentially upset.

I think the NCAA teams only play local teams..not each other.

When Buzz Peterson took that big incoming Freshman class down there a few years back, they played two games. I recall it being a real eye-opener - and not a great harbinger of things to come.

The Seahawks struggled to an underwhelming win in game #1, then lost to a team with no player taller than 6'5" in game #2.

Correct, otherwise it would have to be a closed door exhibition, right?

Even if it's international? I would rather play the international teams anyway, honestly. Those guys have more to prove than the power conference teams that may treat such early exhibition games as little more than a practice.

I imagine so. That would be a loophole every D-I school would exploit otherwise.
