If some eccentric billionaire woke up tomorrow and cut UAB a check for the full cost of an OCS, would they turn it down because it was unsolicited?

I don't know if they turned down football capital project donations or blocked (funded) capital projects prior to last spring when the turf was nixed by Fess. I think that even surprised Mackin since we had the money. This appears to be the time frame when the decision/plan to kill football was finalized.

In years past I think raising funds was the problem, although I don't believe we were allowed to have an official capital campaign for athletics.

Most did not realize that the property on the Warrior River that the coal mine folks wanted to dig in was on UA System property. No one uses UA System land without BOT permission - and payment, no matter where in the state it is located.

I'm probably going to regret asking this, but what part of this is an issue?

I suspect this is the issue. Dividing the university system means dividing its assets, and that means a thorough audit of just what those assets are and what's been done with them. The medical center's not the big prize, the coal leases are - our friends aren't getting kickbacks on stethoscopes and prozac.
