How did Florida International manage to build a $3 million stadium in 1995?

FIU still doesn't have a full press box. Radio broadcasters sit under a tent.

I remember our crew saying they sat in a corner waaaaaay far away. Also that is the scoreboard that went out at the end of the game in the McGee era.

The built it in planned stages starting with little more than a high school stadium. See link below for its expansion(past, present, and future).

https://metroatlantic.wordpress.com/2012...n-history/

The stadium was originally built in 1994, opening in 1995 as “FIU Community Stadium.” The stadium sat only 7,500 on mostly temporary bleachers, but it served its purpose for local high school football teams.

Holy cow. I forgot about that. If there was EVER a program that didnt need to tap into public dollars, it would be that one. They sure took it, didnt they?

It says university funding for Johnny Red Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro. It was funded by an increase in student fees.

If Bradley Bammer can increase our undergrad enrollment to 40,000 based off unsustainable out-of-state recruiting of sub-20 scorers, we can easily increase student fees to build a new stadium. 03-drunk

Yeah that's ridiculous. The only students they are taking with sub 20 test scores are from in-state.

As I recall, that was about the time when Bama was dickering with Northport AND Tuscaloosa merchant organizations - as well as gov'ts - for money to lure them from playing their last few annual games at Legion Field. Bama was all too happy to oblige - for a price. The Tide was very successful at getting bribed to do what they wanted to do anyways.

Note that at the time B-D Stadium was building toward 80,000, only slightly more than LF now, but they could charge the greatest "Tide Pride" premium for ALL their best seats at B-D.
