Exclamation AL high school football facilities arms race

Interesting article. The facilities pictured aren't even some of the nicer ones around the state... Mark Ingram has to keep this in mind when planning facilities. From the sound of his interview this morning on JOX, he has a really good gameplan for facilities. I'm looking forward to what he comes up with while working with Coach Clark.

Indeed.

One of the things that annoyed me the most about UAB's situation is that high schools around the state were outdoing us, and that's ridiculous no matter what angle you take. Normally, I'd be more concerned about how must is being invested in these projects versus being spent on academic activities, but football provides a dynamic that can be utilized to benefit the school in many more ways than just on the field. That's pretty much why a lot of the big time football high schools in the state are also some of the best here, too.

RE: AL high school football facilities arms race
It is beginning to dawn on more UAB fans what we demanded our coaches to accomplish while providing minimal facilities. Now we are seeing how public high schools in the more financially blessed suburban enclaves - and a few others - are spending more and more money to provide facilities UAB's staffs could only dream about for over 20 years.
Modern stadium -CHECK
Well kept all weather practice fields -CHECK
Some even providing indoor facilities -CHECK

In spite of some who still believe and preach that education alone violates the capitalist principle that "you get what you pay for", the proof is growing that it remains the single greatest ingredient in both academic and athletic success. Those who can consistently spend the most get the best consistent results over time.(Name of the ONLY Alabama public comprehensive high school to be listed among the 300 top high schools in America? Mountain Brook High School - #250)

Thank you UABslant for providing this link for our enlightenment. Now UAB needs to get shovels acquainted with earth ASAP.

Opelika has beautiful field turf with a new jumbotron and an indoor practice facility. All of those are upgrades since I graduated from there in 2000, but it looks amazing. I still attend a few games every season and can attest to the fact that they're better than UAB's facilities.
