Battle For The Bones
Congratulations from Tigernation on the return of your football program. Baby Bear can kiss where the sun don't shine.

Our "new" AD came in and decided we needed to upgrade our schedule and he dropped UAB and USM against the wishes of a large number of Tiger fans. THEN this west coaster realized that we needed to play a game in Alabama for recruiting purposes. So he back tracked on the upgrading schedule crap and scheduled a home and home against South Alabama and Georgia State.

There are many fans in Tigernation who would much rather prefer playing UAB instead of South Alabama due to our history together. Some of us are pushing Bowen to restore the Battle For The Bones series as soon as we heard the news about your football team returning.

We are pushing the idea of restoring the series with a Thanksgiving weekend game every year. This will allow the fans of each school to enjoy the holiday at home with their families on Thursday. Then Friday morning the BBQ teams hit the road and make the short drive along US-78. They would be able to set up their grills by noon and start cooking by early afternoon. Which would give plenty of time for cooking and judging of the contest early Saturday morning before the game on Saturday afternoon.

This way every year the fans of U of M and UAB will know that Thanksgiving weekend is always Battle For The Bones weekend. This is what college football is about. Knowing that one weekend year in and year out you do not have to look at the schedule to see who you are playing. That this one weekend will always be Battle For The Bones weekend. Or in other words a TRADITION. There are weekends across the nation you do not have to look at the schedule to see who is playing who because they are traditional weekends.

The FANS at the U of Memphis did not decide to end our series with UAB and Southern Miss. It was our California import AD which made the decision. We have a chance to restore the series in 2017. Hope we can work to get it done. None of the fans at the U of M wanted to trade UAB and USM for South Alabama and Georgia St.

This needs to happen for sure. I hear talks of WVU and Pitt bringing back the Backyard Browl, which ended after conference realignment. I think UAB and Memphis should do the same. It will guarantee an OC game each year, and will bring in a lot of fans from both sides (I will take that 3 hr trip to Memphis every other year)
