If there is a difference between the MAC and AAC it is just so incredibly tiny that it is silly to even try and discriminate. I don't think people realize all that is involved in a conference change. Its not something you do at the drop of a hat. Going to the AAC would bankrupt NIU with the travel, in essentially joining a conference at the same level, and putting you in a worst position to achieve your ultimate goal. Lets start thinking rationally please!
How many teams have gone from the MAC to a P5 conference?
- how many MAC mens basketball teams have won national championships, or even been in one recently...or even a final four?
-how many BCS bowl games has a MAC team been to and won?
- what MAC school is consistently ranked in top 25 or getting votes for mens bball and football?
better competition in AAC. more travel, but playing against better teams, in more areas of the country that are more populated, leads to recruiting the area and exposure.
i have no clue about AAC baseball, wrestling, golf womens sports or anything else though. although, i would imagine they would be above average and have quality teams year in and year out.
if we were in the AAC and somehow UCONN stayed...how crazy would that be to have either mens or womens UCONN basketball come to dekalb for a game against our beloved huskies?!
would be a major upgrade in mens/womens bball, also a good jump for football, for many reasons
