Hopefully the team will have learned something from the Arkansas game to make this game better.

Well when you spot any team a 14 point lead before even getting anything started, you are doomed. But you are correct. The offense should be vastly improved this season. I expect 3-4 TD's put up on Ohio State...but unfortunately they will put 6-7 TD's lol

I guess I know why there are so many mattress shops in Columbus. Win or lose, they just love burning those mattresses!

We'd have to call in a SEAL team to extract us.

As far as the article, I think he means that for us to sustain being on top of the MAC, we'd have to improve our recruiting so that its stands out vs. other MAC schools, even the better ones. I can understand that, because nobody dominates the MAC for that long. Marshall did for a while when they had Leftwich and Pennington, CMU won 3 MACCs when they had Lefevour, NIU won 5 division titles and 3 MACCs but 4 of the years were with Harnish/Lynch and last year was a down year for the MAC in general. So I can understand what he's saying. We aren't like Boise in the MWC or Ohio State in the Big 14, getting obviously better recruits than all of their conference-mates, or almost all of them.

NIU will continue to churn out double digit win seasons as long as the O and D line talent is better than the competition and over the last decade the Huskies have found alot of that talent in Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri & Kansas.

Of the top 7 Rivals listed Olineman(Listed by rating, 40 time) that have the Huskies in their top 5/10

OL Royce Newman Nashville, Illinois
Nashville
6'7" 260 4.9
OL Jeff Scott Peoria, Illinois
Peoria
6'2" 298 5.7
OL Jamal Kasem Kokomo, Indiana
Kokomo
6'4" 298 5.5
OL Tom Killilea Overland Park, Kansas
St. Thomas Aquinas
6'6" 272 5.3
OL Dylan Powell Hannibal, Missouri
Hannibal
6'3" 270 5.1
3 stars
5.6

OL Brendan McConnell Kansas City, Missouri
Rockhurst
6'6" 290 5.3
3 stars
5.5
OL Sam Heckel Waukesha, Wisconsin
Waukesha West
6'5" 265 5.1
3 stars
5.6

Only 2 are in state (both from outside Metro Chicago), 2 Missouri and 1 each from Kansas, Wisconsin & Indiana. A strong core of Olineman is vital to a team's winning

Unless that team is Western Michigan or Eastern Illinois.

So far we are not doing very well with Olineman. Of those listed we have only, from the information I can find, offered Heckel. We have a hole in the Oline depth chart as the three walkons who would have been RS sophomores quit. Probably why we are going after JC kids.

This writer is incorrect when he states NIU faces a recruiting disadvantage because of it's locale.

With only Northwestern and Wisconsin in the immediate vicinity, the Huskies don't have nearly the amount of major programs in close proximity to compete with as many mid-major schools do. Plus, obviously, NIU enjoys a massive population region that a considerable amount of schools can not claim.

And yes, Illinois, Purdue, Notre Dame, Iowa, Iowa State, etc. are all close - but consider smaller schools in Florida, Ohio, Texas, California and other areas with high density populations. I think they face a lot more competition then the Huskies do.

NIU has also done well converting big TE's into OT like Doug Free

TE Conner Edmonds Germantown, Wisconsin
Germantown
6'5" 240 4.8
Would seem to be a perfect fit for that purpose given his size and speed

Kansas's top TE also has NIU on his shortlist

TE Alex Wilson Paola, Kansas
Paola
6'7" 210 4.7

A target with that size and speed would make any QB's life easier. Both also have AFA offers so you know they are solid academically.

We just had one (Semisch) who was a non-factor for us. He's now working out with and trying to make an NFL team.

Semisch might not have run a 4.7 30 yard dash.

Semisch started at a D2 program (Omaha), transfering from a D2 program to a championship MAC program is a big move up. I doubt he posses 4.65 speed in the 40 as Wilson does. Wilson also has a G5 offer (AFA). Hopefully he can catch passes, if so he'd be a heck of a get

BUT the reason I write this article is that they somehow know how to rack up these pesky mid-major wins, and hitting double-digit wins looks good for US when we stomp the hell out of them."

Nobody with the exception of a complete homer/crazy person thinks NIU is going to beat OSU next year. That includes almost everyone on this board.

try telling THAT to @FauxRodCarey on Twitter!

Yeah, but the writer had it like due to the laws of the universe, there's no way it could be competitive and an upset would be childhood fantasy. I can see him saying something like "Rest assured, we'll win this game just as we should expect to beat Northwestern or Minnesota, but it helps our SoS as it's not just yet-another-G5..."

Of course, with WMU and NIU coming at them -- it would be nice to see them not survive a MAC West showdown unscathed. :)
