You must not have experienced Ohio State fans. Nothing against our Ohio State friends here but oh my god, the worst from Ohio State are worse than the worst at any other Big Ten school. We all have our bad ones but Ohio State's t-shirt fans can be put up there in comparison with the worst from anywhere, including the likes of Alabama.

I just want to point out that of the 4 U-M votes ..... 2 come from "Big Ron Buckeye" and "Sparty84."

Says something about OSU and MSU's fans abilities to follow directions :-)

Agree with every bad thing said about Ohio State but ... covering up the anal rape of children to protect their zombie football coach's record for most wins by a dead white guy??? May they all meet Sandusky in hell.

Do you think that the 9 campuses of the University of California (Berkeley, LA, SD, Davis, Santa Barbara, Irvine, Riverside, Santa Cruz and Merced) plus the med school at UCSF, the affiliated law school (Hastings) and the partnerships the system has with US Dept. of Energy Labs (like Lawrence Livermore) don't meet the demands for public doctoral-degree-granting institutions in our state?

And if they don't, would it be wrong to open more UC campuses instead of broadening the mission of the CSU campuses?

I agree. California did it right. They've got a number of top-flight schools instead of spreading it around by letting everyone offer PHds. And they didn't limit it to a single school, but the UC group.

I thought Michigan was the one most disliked internally. You don't hear any comments about Ohio St. owning the referees.

They lead the charge that Fresno and SDSU aren't at the academic level to be in the PAC-12 knowing full well it's their lobbying efforts that make it so. The have their foot on Fresno's and SDSU's neck and fully intend to keep it there. Our only hope is the Big 12 in ideally both an academic and athletic partnership.

If we're talking about academics, you may have an argument that UC is worse than OSU. OSU has historically been a joke when it comes to school while the UC system is pretty prestigious and hence restrictive against competition. Plenty of rival programs around Ohio (i.e. Miami business, UC architecture, OU journalism) are head and shoulders above OSU, though they have improved significantly since ending open admission in the 90's.

Athletically, it's no contest. If California were like Ohio when it comes to sports, Cal would be located in Sacramento, would be the only CA team in the Pac-12, and would have the vast majority of college sports fan interest in the Bay Area, Sacramento, and LA markets. SDSU would still be a strong MWC school that rivals Cal's popularity in San Diego, but have little sway elsewhere. No other DI schools would be in Sacramento. San Francisco/San Jose and LA/Riverside would have at least three other DI schools (plus two for Fresno) competing for a fraction of the local fan base while being members of the WAC/Big West/WCC/Big Sky.

If Ohio were like California, OSU would be a mediocre Big Ten program (for revenue sports at least) located in Cincinnati competing with a Big Ten private school nearby, a Cleveland university would have a good Big Ten program up there, and the rest of the state would be divided by MAC/Big East/Horizon teams with one in each remaining region (Columbus, Toledo, Dayton, Akron/Youngstown, Miami Valley between Cincy/Dayton, southern OH).

My selection is purely for the horrific way Maryland treated Ralph Friedgen, who will probably end up in the GT Sports Hall of Fame. Fired with 9 wins as ACC COTY. After he took them for dead for 30 years to relevant, an ACC title, and an Orange Bowl.

After being fired, Fridge said he tore up his Maryland diploma and was a GT fan now. He also said he wasn't treated like an alumni when he was hired, while he was there, and certainly not when he was fired.

It was regrettable the way it ended. As a Maryland fan, I'll always have love for Ralph and what he did his first three years here.

But the key is the first three years. The last seven years were mediocre, and there was little sign the mediocrity would abate. The ACC COY of the year season was fun, but we did that on the heels of a 2-10 season, with another one to follow in 2011 after Ralph left.

What's worse is there were growing off the field issues with the players on the team, and they weren't getting it done in the classroom.

The choices were to extend Ralph, let him coach his last season as a lame duck, or fire him. Number one was not the right move and number two was a non-starter. It should have come to a firing, but it was the right move in the end.
UMD intended for Ralph to coach the final year of his contract, but he demanded an extension, which forced the AD to fire him. After the third season, Ralph was pretty much up-and-down as a head coach, losing many games he had no business losing. In the process, Ralph lost the fans. So he had to go.

For applied degrees no I dont. Nor do I think the state needs to spend more wasted dollars on new campuses when they have perfectly suitable schools already in place.

The UC's historically have done a great job of basic research and a marginal job of applied research. The Vet School at Davis being a prime example. Davis does a great job of research but their grads are notoriously not ready for the working world. We need fewer UC campuses and continue the focus on basic research. Then we need to enable our Cal States to focus on applied research which quite frankly they would do better than the UC's.

Merge Riverside into UCLA, and Santa Cruz into Berkeley and close Merced. Then let Fresno, Long Beach, SDSU, SJSU and Poly offer doctoral degrees in applied research.
The state would be much healthier as a result.

Ohio State, excuse me, THE Ohio State University. I've hated them long before last season's CFP.

From a Big Ten fan, yes Ohio State is the most hated team. In the poll, I looked from the outside view and Ohio State would be the team I hated the most. I thought I was voting for Ohio State, but I actually voted Purdue, my team in the Big Ten. *facepalm*
I also don't like both Michigan teams, Penn State, Illinois, Wisconsin, and especially not IU.

Minnesota receives a vote in honor of our fan base: as Minny is absolutely hated and vice versa. Minnesota has refused to play us in the greatest college hockey rivalry until 2016-17. Minny is so arrogant about only having Minny-bred hockey players, their own arrogance is a major downfall of their program.

Personally, absolutely detest Ohio States football fans. Had one as a neighbor, and when OSU lost it was like the world had ended and when they wom it was worse with the arrogance.
