Someone should point out to Hammontree that with the level of financial support that has now been garnered, you could take away the city's $2.5 million and we'd still be able to field the team just fine.

His argument is no longer valid...maybe 10 days ago, but not now.

This Hammontree doofus lost all credibility in his argument when he mentioned Division II or Division III football. That tells me he didn't do any research whatsoever and doesn't have the first clue in what the hell he's talking about, and really needs a good slap across the face for saying something so stupid.

Hammontree, as many do, cites expensive things that the city could spend money on with no hope of financial return. Yes, B'ham, as with many other cities , has a long list of expensive things it needs to do. The question is, what return on taxpayer's money does each provide? I think the MPF and UAB FBS football are two things that the city can make money on with the latter being a relatively minor investment. As the Sportplex has demonstrated, people come to good state of the art facilities and spend their money around the metro area while visiting. When was a city able to make tax revenue on new bike paths and the like? His argument will never be valid and never has been.

The system BOT has never been only a complicating part of UAB's problems. It has always been the source of most of its worst ones.

In looking at Hammontree's side, does Tusc or Auburn or any other city in AL have similar "donations/pledges/support" to their local team be it FBS/FCS? We can say for a fact that the state legislature gets a viable benefit (Iron Bowl tickets as well as I sure free to them premium seating tickets too for major bowl games their team might be in in the case of UAT/AU maybe not others) in a couple of cases for their support so should not that process end?
