I would be happy with that if we maintained access to the playoff

Our leadership needs to be thinking ahead with an eye on the ESPN/Verizon suit. If ESPN loses, the unbundle could snowball. If ESPN loses substantial income it wont bode well for our contract hopes. Unbundling will affect ESPN and the larger conferences the most. Right now, in Raleigh, the PAC, SEC, and B1G networks are all on the sports tier I purchase for extra ESPNs. When that unbudles they will all lose money. The AAC needs to be out in front of this.

I agree the outcome of this may burst the bubble big time. It would severely hamper the model regarding adding new markets and getting the channel added as a basic channel and getting set revenue. For instance in MD the Big 10 channel is now on basic cable and I believe they get around a dollar per subscriber. If this is unbundled that number would drop significantly as a big percent would simply drop the channel and the benefits of the new market will be greatly reduced.

Time to try to add BYU and somebody else and call it a day.

Yet we were in the BE and you were not. Mind you I have no reservations that it was about our performance on the field. It was business. What the other posters lack is the ability to see that our schools are being duped into a contract with a partner whom doesn't support us. Everyone says that ESPN will bury us if we leave. Well, they didn't bury the B1G, PAC or Big 12. They got a lesser part of the pie and continued on. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Don't need to do nothing right now. Just stand pat and get another year of AAC in the books. BYU makes decent $$$ as is, and our contract is not near its finish point either.
