So we shouldn't use any word that might offend somebody? Even when said word is not slang, is used in it's proper context, isn't used to insult, etc...?

Why would you want to use a word that offends people? That's just being a jerk wad.

I find jerk wad highly offensive.

Why must you use it?

You are right. That is way out of line.

Let's do better and not purposely offend others.

I'm fine with that.

But, an insult is an insult. I don't see the point in trying to act like one is more offensive than the other. People use them to hurt other people, wether they call somebody an ass hole or a ******. It's all about how people use them, not the word itself. The words are just tools.

I really don't care if it offends them or not. I'm not using it to insult anybody. If they get offended by an English word that is used properly that's their problem for being ignorant, not mine. I wouldn't use the "N" word because it's sole purpose is to degrade an entire race.... HUGE difference.

Basically what you and your ilk are trying to do is sabatoge the English language so nobody ever gets offended, everyone is happy, we all get along and sunshine and rainbows are flying out of all of our asses. The world doesn't work that way. Nobody should have to cater to everybody's damn feelings. Should we stop saying pig and swine because it might offend a Muslim?

Is this how you guys grew up? Did mommy, daddy, sister, brother, teacher, coach, etc. all try their best to not hurt your feelings? If that's how it was it explains A LOT about why some of you libs are so sensitive.

People who don't care if they offend other people or not are the same people who justify saying offensive words.

a) because if you're calling someone a thug, you probably intend it to be offensive. There is a difference between offensive and racist. Cracker, 'n' and redneck are all intended to be racist AND offensive, but only one of those would be hit by the profanity filter.

b) Because I believe the 'RACIAL' offense is often 'manufactured' in an effort to stifle speech.

I'm responsible for what I say and mean, not how someone else takes it... especially if they don't know me or I don't know them... and that is the majority of these instances.

If I see someone take a bat to someone else, I'm likely to refer to them as a thug. If they happen to be black, white, gray or chartreuse, that is immaterial to the comment.

I'm not saying nobody has ever used 'thug' to describe a RACE of people. I'm sure they have... but someone using the term incorrectly shouldn't mean that we should stop using it correctly.

Ironically, thugs have been justifying the use of the N word for decades.

Nobody is justifying the use of it. Learn to recognize when somebody is calling out a double standard.

That is the point that those who think it is becoming a racial slur are reffering to. White athletes get into a fight = no talk of them being thugs. Black athletes do the exact same thing = they are being thugs.

Hockey teams have had enforcers or thugs for ages. Find a better argument. Oh and black people play hockey too so stop insinuating hockey is a "white" sport. I find that offensive.

Those thay find it offensive should just not get the panties in a wad over the word. Ducks sake, thw mayor and president called them thugs. Think they really wanted to call them something else instead? I dont. I think they called them thugs based on their thuggish behavior.

Since we are a nation of majority rule, and by a measure of 30-4, it is hereby deemed that "Thug" is not a racist word.

Ummm... yeah. We are.... Ask the Democrats. Elections have consequences.... 'with minority rights'. If you choose to believe that it is racist, no problem... but your opinion is in the minority and places no burden on the majority to accept your definition.

My opinon might be in the minority but that doesn't mean the term is not used as a racial slur.

My comment however was on "Majority Rule". Our country was not founded on it.
