Thats an interesting question because it deals with the idea that we are doing something "wrong" when we go to the moon or send out probes. I think as the link illustrates the Biblical answer to that is clearly NO. Its not wrong to study the heavens and even send men into space.

That's the first time I've ever heard anyone suggest or ask if its "Wrong" to do these things, I never really thought about it possibly being wrong or breaking God's law.

I don't really see how we can say the Bible suggests its wrong. Maybe the idea of reaching God through space travel is wrong because Christ is the only path to Him. But just sending out probes or sending men into space? I don't see how that is wrong biblically.

I think what we can clearly say is God tells us plainly what the situation is when Christ returns, and its clearly not with man as an interstellar colonizer spread out among the stars. Its with man as an earth based species. And again the Bible suggests a time frame of a 2000 year church age, followed the the 2nd coming and then a 1000 Kingdom age on Earth. After that a New Heaven and New Earth where death will no longer exist.

I've always assumed that in the eternal realm and New Heaven New Earth that man will branch out and live on other planets, just not before the 2nd coming and God's Kingdom being literally established on the earth.

This is what my FIL sent me. Keep in mind that he has gone to seminary school and is into the word on a daily basis.

"I want in on this conversation too. God is God of the universe, and he has made this a beautiful and inviting universe to explore. And he created us with curiosity. He did tell people to inhabit the whole earth, and they knew nothing about other continents even. Also, even if people go to and populate a different planet and die, we believe they are with God no matter where they die. One of my hopes is that from the New earth we will be able to travel to other parts of the universe; we'll have an eternity to do so. I doubt that there are beings on other planets, but if there were, it would be more evidence of God's creating us. The odds of that happening by chance are astronomical times two."

Sounds like he is saying the exact same thing I am saying. I fully agree with him.

On a side note, you don't have to be in seminary to understand the Bible or attend a Bible school to understand scripture. No where in the Bible does it suggest you need to do that to understand it. In fact its tells us its God Himself who gives you understanding, not other people who went to school for it. Its certainty cool to do those things or attend a Bible school, but if you can read and have any comprehension skills at all its not a necessity.

God gave us the Bible for all to read and study, not just a select group of people.

Too many people just defer and depend on others to tell them what scripture says. In fact I'd say over 80% of Christians are guilty of this. You yourself can study it and see these things for yourself in scripture, and your understand and relationship with God will grow exponentially.

If you want to get closer to God, if you want to heard God speaking to you directly, get serious about reading and studying your Bible. It will change your entire life forever, it will give you new eyes, new ears, a new mind and a completely new perspective on everything under the sun in on creation.

If you think its hard to follow and understand at first, that's because its supposed to be AT FIRST. HE gave it to us that way because the people who do get past those first steps are dead serious about it and are seeking Him with all their heart. After those early stages, it begins to open up and your understanding begins to open up in a way you never dreamed or imagined.

I was 40 before I really began to seriously study it, and the previous 40 years I thought it was too hard to understand. But its not, what had to change was me and my heart to seek Him on a serious level.

If you pray for understanding and believe HE will give it, and you follow that up with real study you will be blown away with how much you can understand. And before you know it you won;t be asking other people to tell you what it says, you will be looking and reading and finding those things for yourself. Then you will ask other people about it just to compare notes.

Trust me brother, you can read and understand the Bible, and that is what God desires for you to do.

It took me half my life to realize that, but its never too late. Many people in scripture did not begin to really follow God until that point or even later 04-cheers

so, this is pretty cool: New Webb Image Captures Clearest View of Neptune’s Rings in Decades

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope shows off its capabilities closer to home with its first image of Neptune. Not only has Webb captured the clearest view of this distant planet’s rings in more than 30 years, but its cameras reveal the ice giant in a whole new light.

Most striking in Webb’s new image is the crisp view of the planet’s rings – some of which have not been detected since NASA’s Voyager 2 became the first spacecraft to observe Neptune during its flyby in 1989. In addition to several bright, narrow rings, the Webb image clearly shows Neptune’s fainter dust bands.

“It has been three decades since we last saw these faint, dusty rings, and this is the first time we’ve seen them in the infrared,” notes Heidi Hammel, a Neptune system expert and interdisciplinary scientist for Webb. Webb’s extremely stable and precise image quality permits these very faint rings to be detected so close to Neptune.

RE: NASA / Space Exploration Thread
That's a great pic.

Neptune is one of the most fascinating and beautiful planets in the solar system. I still remember when I was a kid and we had no clue what it really looked like, just that it appeared to be a blue gas giant. When voyager 2 passed it in 1989 that was so epic, similar to when it passed Pluto. We were the first humans to ever see it up close and it did not disappoint.

The ring system, the cloud variations, the moons we discovered, that giant dark spot. And just the majestic sea of blue it is.

And its so massive compared to earth.

Wouldn't it by our luck that if by nudging the asteroid it put it on a trajectory towards Earth?

More like the nudged asteroid will be sent hurtling toward a planet, that is home to a more advanced species. They'll see it as an act of aggression and pay earth a visit.

As an old "grape," I applaud you. For those who don't know the term, carrier flight deck crews wear different colored shirts to tell them apart--green for cat/trap operators, red for ammo handlers, etc. Refueling crews wear purple and are known as grapes. We never hot refueled, but the flight deck is a damned dangerous place to work.
