Yeah, when it comes to small towns, I tend to assume it's something along those lines. As much as people want to b*tch about the corruption in DC, you'll never find a more toxic and self-serving political environment than in some small towns.

Excellent point. Still, it would seem odd to quit becuase you aren't going to get perks anymore.

Not really, That perk may very well be the job.

Got to think of it like this.. A deputy/LEO in a town that size may make $25-$30k a year.. They might be getting free gas for personal vehicles, free meals, take off when they want, etc.. The new admin may say no to gas, meals, and time off.

And that's a reason to resign?

Break down those costs.. I know for me it's about $400-$500/month for fuel just in my vehicle.. so let's take $500 x 12.. That's $6k.. Free food, say you spend $7-$8/meal.. So $8 x 5.. That's $40/week or $160/month.. That's $1920. So we're up to $7900 in a year on top of a $30k a year salary.. So round up to $8k.. With the perks, it's like he's making $38k.. Without them, he might be down to more like $22k because of spending money.

As an educator Fit you never knew the good things about perks.. If I take a better job, but make less money, but get a company vehicle, if I can justify the costs associated with how much I spend in fuel vs how much I save and can come out ahead, I'll take the less paying job.

I don't think anyone with good sense will quit a job without having another lined up.

I only work 180 days a year. I think I know a thing or two about perks.

Former city clerk Tyrus Byrd was sworn in as mayor of, Missouri on Tuesday only to find out that police officers, as well as the city attorney and a water treatment supervisor, had resigned before she took office.

According to outgoing Mayor Randall Ramsey, who is stepping down after 37 years in town hall over two terms, the city employees gave no prior notice.

There's only 713 people in that town according to the 2010 census. Math.

yepper....I knew it before I got to your post......what a stupid story....

I have two dogs. If one died yesterday, it would be quite strange for me to say "50% of my dogs died yesterday"

3 of the cops aren't even full time.

There's 713 people in the entire town.

This is small town life.

This is a great example of the media blowing this crap way out of proportion.

How else does the media make their money? They prey on the overreationaries and irrational. If 10% of blacks get outraged in the US, that's 4 million loud voices.

What the story actually tells me is that the mayor-elect sucks, or that the town's leadership is old as dirt. You have to want to add race into this to do so.

Ok.

Done.

Why small towns continue to maintain police forces of their own is a bit of a mystery - that function is better handled at the county level.

That only matters to race pimps. Again, this sems to be just small towm politics, but since it involves new black mayor, it's easy to play the race card.
