I didn't like the article. Don't like them referring to us as we either.

RE: Free UAB – Football Civil War in AL – Part I
I have to agree with MB here.
There are lots of things that I've worried have and may continue to dilute our movement. Poor, inaccurate journalism is one of those things. I appreciate the exposure, but factually incorrect articles floating out there are detrimental. Just for example, when have we ever competed with UA for 5* recruits? Why would Bartow have penned a letter in the early 1990s about it when we didn't even make the jump to NCAA competition, at the DIII level at that, until 1991? We didn't make D1A until 1996, and even without knowing anything at all about our situation and UA, what 5* recruits are going to consider an upstart over an established, renowned school?
A little off this topic, but some other things that dilute our movement include stuff like attacking Babalu Tacos & Tapas because they didn't include a UAB product, which they DO carry, in a picture that was composed of products for SEC teams. Just really irritated me last week on Facebook.

"On the gridiron, UAB was quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with. They were fighting Alabama for some of the “5 star” prospects of the day, definitely top 50 prospects, which lived in Alabama."
Um, no.
On the court Bartow was competing in recruiting. We went head to head over Buck Johnson and others.
Unfortunately, "the gridiron" refers to the football field, and I can't think of many guys we were even in a recruiting battle over there. Not one we won, anyhow.
This is a poorly written article.

Not everything posted online has to be read or should be considered as accurate.

The author did give the "1980s" as the time for Bartow's letter. That was before UAB even had club FB. It is probable that the article's author doesn't know the timeline for UAB athletics either.

It seemed like a story a guy sitting next to you at a bar might tell you after 4-5 beers.

I am pretty sure that they quoted Jack incorrectly in a couple of instances which affected the validity of the story. I guess if we want this story told from beginning to end, like these guys are trying to do, one of us is going to have to write it.

What are the chances that a national rep sports writer might be interested in writing a book about the "Life and Death of UAB Football" including its travails at the hands - and jackboots - of the system BOT?
I would love to see Scarbinsky take a crack at it since he has been the most outspoken local writer to date and seems to have a full grasp of the story.
