The most glaring thing for me is that if UAB leaves, that puts a hole in the footprint from Mississippi to North Carolina (would be missing Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina).
Since this thread is about South Alabama, how is your athletic program compared to NIU or Ark State or the Georgia twins?
Cliff's notes version:
Baseball: 25 NCAA appearances in 49 years (by far the most in the Sun Belt); been ranked #1 in two different seasons; #16 all-time winning percentage. Stanky Field is an excellent facility (capacity 4,500).
Basketball: 8 NCAA Tournament appearances (most in Sun Belt) and 4 NIT appearances. Mitchell Center is an excellent facility (capacity 10,000).
Football: Program started in 2009; fully transitioned to FBS in 2013; bowl-eligible in both FBS seasons (2013 and 2014); fastest team to ever reach a bowl; our football fieldhouse is an excellent facility. We play at Ladd Stadium, home of the Senior Bowl and GoDaddy Bowl.
Softball: Program started in 2007; 3 straight NCAA tournaments (2012-2014) and will make it 4 in a row this year: ranked in top 25 every week since 2013 season. Our softball has really grown, and we've already had to expand our stadium (capacity 1,000) and added a hitting facility.
Other sports: USA has a good history in some other Olympic sports, like men's tennis, women's tennis, women's soccer, and track/cross country. We even have a few individual national championships in track.
Budget: USA's football budget is 1.7 million more than the Sun Belt average, and will continue to grow. USA's men's recruiting budget is #1 in Sun Belt and would be #1 in the MAC, #2 in CUSA (Old Dominion), # 5 in MWC, and #7 in the AAC.
