I've said it makes sense due to rivalries and geography before. WVU's endowment is currently the same size of Maryland's and Rutgers.

That would be a nightmare for the ACC.

Somebody gets my logic.

He just twitted that the Big10 agreed that they should go to 16 teams back when they added Nebraska.

So Buffalo and UMass both get the call congrats to their 1,500 football season ticket holders.

B1G: Missouri, Kansas
SEC: Florida State
ACC: Cincinnati
B12: BYU FB Only

That would be the end to a lot of complaining on this board.

Missouri?

And the SEC in a corner due to GORs has to settle for East Carolina.

I don't have anything against E.C.U. Sometimes it is easier to love somebody who is happy with the arrangement than to take somebody who is always bringing up old flames. That said there is a GOR in the SEC too. It's just that it with ESPN for the network and not for the conference per se.

But in fairness to the discussion of the tweet the list of candidates for a big surprise would be these in no particular order:
Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Boston College, N.C. State, Missouri, West Virginia, and perhaps a private school who is AAU. Duke, Vanderbilt, and Rice all come to mind. And then there is the school that would make everyone want to go take a drink and lynch the messenger whether he was right or wrong, Notre Dame.

My bet is on Missouri.

Tweet: No further eastward expansion for Big 10 except perhaps UConn.

So they are expanding South. Or West.

Given the contiguous state and AAU requirements, this should be interesting.

You know that if Missouri left and the Big 10 was moving to 16 then the options for the SEC would be one of these two: Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, or Florida State, Texas, Oklahoma. We aren't going to let the Big 10 expand without matching them.

I don't see Kansas getting out on their own. Texas and Oklahoma are not going to let that happen unless they have something in the works.

If Oklahoma leaves the B12, Texas is gone too.

Apparently, if it's a southern school, it is not a high value ACC school either. He says ESPN will do what it takes to protect the ACC.

Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky and West Va are contiguous.

So is Va Tech, but I assume they are a high value ACC property.

SO ESPN is protecting the ACC. Pretty Clear ESPN is also protecting the SEC, so the big 12 is the target for the big 10. KU + OU would be the best combo to get to 16.

Uh oh...I think people are catching on. ESPN owns the hottest ticket in college football with the SEC. ESPN owns the best overall league in college basketball with the ACC. ESPN will protect it's own. HOWEVER....there's hot tickets out there under a competitor's banner, and it just so happens they're in a conference that's been rocked by realignment....

Read through his twitter. For once it's actually not one I feel the need to immediately dismiss as just looking for hits. Not saying anything is going on, but at least many posts seem somewhat logical (unlike most expansion tweets/posts where you can say for 98% sure right away that it's BS).

The parts about the ACC make sense. Although it is interesting saying not in 2025 as well (suggesting ESPN will pay up to make sure the league survives even after the grant of rights expire).

With that said, I'm not sure where I can see this going outside of UConn (which doesn't seem to be the intent). I don't think it's realistic to get a Big 12 member with the current grant of rights.

This makes sense. West Virginia is a longtime rival of Penn State, Maryland and Rutgers. It would unite all of the large, eastern flagships under one conference. And it would make one very interesting eastern pod.

PSU, Rut, Mar, WVU or UCONN

OSU, UM, IU, PUR

NW, ILL, WIS, MSU

MIN, IO, NEB, KU

but if you can get KU, you should be able to get OU and forget the WVU/uconn option. JD should have gone for FSU though.

I'll grant this is definitely entertaining.

I think that one is a none-starter. Ignoring any possible grant of rights issues, West Virginia has issues that I think make it highly unlikely.

1. It's not perceived right academically. It's not AAU and enrollment is pretty open. I don't view those as bad, but the presidents will.

2. It doesn't add many new markets. West Virginia's population is limited and the in-roads into DC it gains you are already gained somewhat from Maryland.

This would be a real shocker but what about Iowa St. and Kansas St. A couple of nice football schools in the West.

Two adds for the B1G that would build around Nebraska (like they did for PSU with Rutgers and Maryland). Also two adds that the B12 cannot claim damages from because neither is too important to the worth of their TV deal.

That allows the B1G East to have both Indiana & Michigan schools in the East division helping rivalries and geography there.
