One could argue that those who are illiterate could benefit from having those who help keep them that way, voted out of office. The Democrat party needs a gigantic number of uninformed, uneducated, illiterate voters to keep the party afloat.

I will say that IMHO there should be a minimum level of assets that a voter should have before being allowed the right to vote. I know this isn't popular, but the reasoning behind this is simple. You vote more responsibly when you have skin in the game.

Both sides would take their hits at the polls if such a policy were ever in place again. There are really, really stupid people on both sides of the spectrum.

I agree that literacy is incredibly important.

I wish that those who voted in elections were more educated/informed.

Should the ability to read/write be a requirement to vote? I don't think so. I think as long as you have photo ID and are a citizen, you're good to go. Hell, there are college students who can't form a basic written sentence. It's sad...

The only way to counterbalance the influence of big money on politics is to have a more informed electorate...we can keep telling ourselves that the more people that vote the better and hammer the idea that voting is a civic duty with no responsibilities. That will just mean there will be more voters who form their choice solely on 30-second ads during Entertainment Tonight or America's got Talent.

You don't have to be a scholar...you just have to at least have a fairly basic level of civic knowledge and the issues.

We've passed the point where there is a hard and fast understanding of civics. The whole issue has been muddied and people with agendas, left and right, have a different set of facts they want pushed and adopted as the truth.

It is just a giant cluster****.
