FCOA - Idaho St says no, Liberty says yes, NDSU says maybe, the fallout
It's seldom equal on the athletic field. One team usually has greater resources, a bigger alumni, a larger endowment, a higher scholastic ranking, better teachers and lots more.
But when teams match up on the field most of those inequities are forgotten. Xs and Os and interest in the event and support for one's teams overrides the actual advantages. We yell and cheer for our team without thinking about that unless a low level G5 team plays a P5 powerhouse. That changed in an instant on Tuesday.
Idaho State HD Kramer states their is no way his team can afford full cost of attendance to his 63 scholarships, much less the golf team and other programs.
North Dakota State publicly states maybe, which means recruits stay with us we don't want to lose you.
Then Liberty comes along in its announcement stating it will cover ALL athletes, not just football. This was a tightening of the screws by LU to bring national attention to itself and again show it's level of commitment to achieve FBS is unequaled.
This will again offend those who will never support Liberty. To the young athlete whose road to financial success is the dream for football stardom, and with modest financial means, this could easily sway their decision. Mom and Dad, or grandparents sitting across the table knowing their son or daughter will receive this support can be very important.
Off the field, this strengthens Liberty's position to be offered the indy route without a challenge by the NCAA. One can also expect a rewriting of some of the indy rules. Liberty just turned the ratchet one turn tighter. FBS membership is close for Liberty. And it just gave notice to the NCAA and conferences moving the bar one ring higher it's commitment and dedication. Liberty is serious about this, not like the waffling of the leadership of JMU admins trying to placate an alumni base.

We can expect other FCS teams who expect or commit to announce their intention. I'm surprised that the Idaho St HC made that bold of a prediction saying no. Is he also the AD? If not, he must be a fixture there to be able to make those claims. If one was an alum of the school and heard that, it would be a sobering statement to hear in a conference with NDSU.
