That's a good article. Interesting perspective.

Last sentence is spot on: "On June 8, UAB coaches, athletes and fan base likely will suffer, again, because of their lack of foresight."

Just wait until Watts meets the Conference officials again. He will boast and brag about how great the MVC is compared to CUSA and they will boot us out. It was not a lack of foresight that got us here; it was the desired outcome Watts and the BOT were looking for.

Nowhere has it said that the MVC would take us.

Watts said they were interested and that is the sole source I know of and that was my point. Watts' arrogance could lead him bragging about the MVC and possibly joining, which would piss off the CUSA officials who are deciding our fate.

I can see him doing this.

Can't suffer this time unless you are not expecting it. I think everyone is expecting what the decision will be. If not, they are just living in denial

"Malice and forethought" is more accurate

There was a media source from Iowa that corrobated there had at least been informal discussions and there seemed to be genuine interest from the MVC.

Well, since Watts has somewhat unlimited funds to pay people off maybe he offered them some money too.

I think he'll do everything he possibly can to get us into a respectable basketball league. He'll really need security if he has to announce a move to the A-SUN.

I think that he will need it if he does anything prior to CUSA making a decision.

Even then he best not let down his guard.

RE: CUSA to make decision on UAB in June
June 8th is significant because it is about two weeks after the Alabama legislature adjourns its regular session for 2015. By then all bills that we have heard about will have been dealt with by that body "for better or for worse".

Once again, UAB finds itself and its athletic future being determined by outside powers - the state legislature, C-USA Executive committee, perhaps other conference's leadership groups and, of course, the system BOT. Thanks to the BOT and their hit man Dr Watts ("et tu Brutus"), UAB must now depend upon whatever goodwill it may be granted by others. It has no control of its future from within its own leadership. Our only choice will come about IF we get more than one conference invitation.

Ray won't announce anything before then but the decision has probably been made. He fully expects the new review to back up his numbers.

"Interest" by someone in the MVC may be solid, or it may just be just casual "interest" based upon some informal survey. I'm concerned about serious consideration being hampered by the well established lack of UAB's ability to make commitments without BOT approval. They may wish to "marry" UAB, but be put off by having to deal with our hostile "in laws" 60 miles to the west. They will have to take us as a package deal unless the legislature changes the system by June..

Scarbinsky is the only one what even mentioned the MVC and he only did it once in passing: Here is the quote from the article, "Jerod Haase needs to know what conference UAB will call home"

"There has been some interest in and from the Missouri Valley Conference, which would be a quality landing spot if UAB moves forward without football, but how long would any conference wait to adjust its roster for next season?"

"There has been some interests in and by the MVC" - now those or words you can really hang your hat on because we know Watts is going to do the right thing since he got rid of football because it was impeding our success in more important sports like basketball and soccer.

There was at least one more article: http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/wic...37379.html

Quote:One of the interesting sidelights of the two weeks traveling to NCAA sites was the positive reception banter about UAB as a possible MVC member received. Conference and school officials are generally high on the potential of that school. The Blazers, coached by former Kansas guard Jerod Haase, upset Iowa State in the NCAA Tournament.

People like the basketball tradition at UAB and the support from the athletic department. Adding UAB would likely mean adding another member to get to 12.

I have no doubts that Watts is actively trying to piss off everyone in CUSA/actively trying to land us in a new conference to further cement the football decision. He couldn't care less what the results of the ATF are or the fact that we don't even have a full time AD.
