Of course not, because nobody in Columbus gives an arse about UC. Unfortunately the same can't be said about the suckeyes in Cincinnati. The Red's would not do this if they didn't think it appealed to a large number of their fan base. Call it what it is, but it is the truth. The sad thing is the longer we roast in this dumpster fire of a conference the worse it will get. The last 2 presidents really did an awesome job of setting the athletic department back decades.

I guerentee you're wrong. I bet the Bluejackets would. They have 41 games to fill with stuff to keep the crowed entertained, and I am sure we would see CTT or Cronin drop a ceremonial puck. The Reds have 81 games to fill, and they honor any team in the region. Who cares?

When will Reds or Blues honor the University of Cincinnati Dance Team 2015 Hip Hop UDA National Champions?

Why would Thom even ask a question like that? Urban had the "right" answer.

So is he trying to pinch Urban to say that is should be a OSU city? If so then he is an annoying POS.

Over the years I have seen a lot of odd things honored at CBJ games, and if UC manages to win a national title in a major sport, I think they would get an invite. We have to win one first...

I am glad the Reds honored the D-1 College National Champions. I am very glad the head coach is a UC graduate from a Cincinnati family. I think the Reds should honor the AAC football champs at some future game and acknowledge going to a post season bowl game as well. 02-13-banana

I'm pretty sure the the Reds have had a UC day in the past . Didnt our baseball team last year actually play a game at GABP before a home Reds game? The Reds support UC too. We didnt win a national title so we arent getting honored on a special day.

OSU won the national title. The Reds want to get the people in Columbus to watch them and come to the games. It's not a big deal that the Reds honored them last night.

Hey @OhioState, you've been to Paul Brown. You've been to Great American. We would love to host you at Nippert or Fifth Third.

Go check out the replies from the bucknuts faithful, pure comedy. If they're so sure it would be an easy win then put it on the schedule. Wouldn't that just help increase the footprint of your team by "embarrassing" the host school on their home field?

BTW, I have no problem with the Reds doing what they did. It's strictly a marketing and business decision done with the intent of gaining goodwill in Columbus, which is Reds country, and selling more tickets.

FWIW they ALWAYS have an annual UC day where they have appearances by The Bearcat, President Ono and other UC coaches. In fact, here's more information about this year's UC Day at the Reds. Let's have more Bearcats faithful packing the stands that day to show that UC fans do turn out for events such as this one!

Yep, and you'll even see fans stretching into Tennessee.

Which is why they don't need to cater to o$u. If Missouri won a national championship you think they would acknowledge them at a St. Louis game? Do you think baseball fans in st louis would even care? About Missouri football? I think the actual osu fans that care their team was honored and attended the game are far outweighed by the uc fans the Reds pissed off.

Maybe the actual osu fans that attended this particular game gained attendance for this particular game. Probably. Which has a very short lived benefit.

The city of St. Louis does not have an FBS college football program, so it is not a fair comparison. I get the point of your question. Would the Pirates honor a Penn State national championship and upset the Pitt fans?

The 2013 National Championship was won by Florida State. Anyone who lives in Florida know whether the Marlins or Rays honored them last year at the expense of USF or Miami of Florida? What was the reaction there? Was Alabama honored at the Braves game the previous couple of years, and did that upset Georgia Tech? The latter is probably a less accurate comparison than the former as I doubt that Georgia Tech constantly gets shafted by the Georgia state government to pump up the University of Alabama.

It just seems like a bad business decision for the MLB franchise. Doing nothing keeps the status quo. Honoring a team from a nearby city that is hated by many locally may gain you a few hundred fans of that team that may be local or travel in for the ceremony for this one game. But in so doing, a few thousand local, returning customers are upset who otherwise would be likely to impulsively come to any given game during the season without the need for advance planning of attendance.

RE: OSU honored at Red's Game
One reason the Marlins or Rays may not have had a recognition night is that Tallahassee is no where near either Tampa or Miami. Tampa is 256 miles and Miami is 481 miles from Tallahassee. There may be some fan base in both markets but it is not like putting your team on buses for a 100 mile trip down I-71.

There is a UC night every year at a Reds game. If you want a football specific recognition night, maybe we need to win a NC.

I can't believe this is even a thread. That anyone would have a problem with the Reds is little brother-ism in CAPS.

Yep. If I'm not mistaken, Tuberville has been interviewed in the booth during Reds games the past couple years.

I noticed that Jeff Wyler was on the field for the ceremonies with Castellini. I guess if he's not upset, the rest of us shouldn't be either.

No UC fan should give a flip about Jeff Wyler or what he does.
He doesn't speak for UC, represent UC nor does he act for the benefit of UC.
He was probably there to sell cars to bucknuts fans.

Like that map and lends support to what I've been trying to to tell a friend that the Reds have a bigger fan base than the Indians in Columbus.

Other random thoughts:

1. I'm kind of surprised Detroit goes as far south as they do. I figured that would have ended a county or two further north.

2. Interesting how the White Sox capture few counties by Chicago, but Cubs get everything wider.

3. Braves and Yankees as significant in Florida as Marlins and Devil Rays.

4. Rangers vastly better followed than Astros.

5. Yankees unsurprisingly the default team most places that aren't rooting for localish team, but there are a few pockets for Red Sox too.

6. Braves are basically the team of the south. They have decent following in every border state (and then some) and if not influx of transplants into Florida and North Carolina, would probably look even stronger.

7. The Yankees/Red Sox divide is pretty steep. It's almost completely along state lines outside of western Connecticut.
