RE: UAB-Auburn Basketball Series
I said "IF" because no one in the leadership of C-USA has assured me - or any of you - there will be no membership change. UAB has ZERO control of that decision due in June. Will UAB get confirmed to stay permanently, kept until next year or kept until 6/30/15? If you know for sure, don't keep it a secret from the rest of us.
If UAB is not in C-USA then it will await an invitation from some alternative conference to join their league. Once again, no one has assured me that a particular conference has UAB as a priority for annexation. UAB has ZERO control of that process as well**. UAB will have a choice if two or more leagues vie for our hand.
**They may love UAB, but they may decide they don't wish to be bothered by our dominant system BOT and its antiUAB behavior. We come as a package deal unless the state legislature sets UAB free next month.
Yes, I hope & pray UAB will remain a D1 set of programs since I saw what happened to BSC's programs when they dropped from D1. I don't want that to happen to UAB. How much choice UAB will have in that matter is still an unknown fate, a destiny that will be made manifest after "all shoes have been dropped".

No one has said UAB is dropping to Div 1 either. You're worrying about something that hasn't even been discussed.

As I noted, I hope you are right about UAB remaining in D1 for all its programs. All we KNOW FOR SURE is that no one in authority to decide that issue has made it public and probably won't unless and until such a choice must be made. We who are just fans will be the last to be informed - probably within a year from now.

We did not just give Haase a raise, extend multiple coaches, add new sports, approve a new soccer stadium, and hunt for a new AD to drop a division. It's illogical to even think this is a thought right now. We have a nationally known soccer program. We have strong softball and basketball programs. These are D-1 programs. We are a D-1 school. D2 conferences aren't going to be calling us up because it's not even a thought. If we leave CUSA, we will have options. UAB has strong programs despite the lack of help from the board. At minimum, I would expect the OVC, Sun Belt, A Sun, Big South, and Southern conference to at least show interest. I still don't believe the MVC rumors are unfounded, but who knows I guess. We will have a conference, or we will play independent for a year. Moving down a division isn't part of the plan, or we wouldn't have added new sports.
